One fan of CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt continues to work on refining a mod to give players the option of using a first-person view in the game.
Thanks to the modder known as SkacikPL, fans of CD Projekt Red’s award winning action-RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, will be able to explore all of the game’s numerous environments and settings such as the large city of Novigrad, or the Toussaint region found within the Blood and Wine DLC in a first-person perspective. The mod allowing this to occur certainly looks promising, but according to SkacikPL, there’s still a lot of work yet to be done.
As seen in the video below, the camera essentially shifts into Geralt’s head and basically becomes attached to it, resulting in some bouncing when The Witcher 3‘s protagonist moves around. SkacikPL has been working on the project for quite some time now, and over the course of its creation, a number of improvements have been implemented in order to increase the mod’s usability, such as the camera’s bobbing being reduced since its initial build.
While the prospect of playing The Witcher 3 with the camera dynamics of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim definitely looks enticing, some hang-ups still remain. For instance, one of the main problems that SkacikPL’s mod has is its inability to work while in combat. To be specific, once players unsheathe Geralt’s sword, the view moves back into a third-person position.
In its current state, SkacikPL’s first-person mod for The Witcher 3 is primarily useful for those who simply wish to get a closer and more controlled look at the vast and absolutely beautiful world CD Projekt Red’s developers designed for the game. As a matter of fact, one can only imagine how gorgeous the improved graphics of the game’s final expansion will look when paired with the SkacikPL’s creation.
Although SkacikPL’s first-person mod still has some issues to iron out, such as the situations where some objects disappear once the camera gets to close to them, fans of The Witcher 3 can continue to stay engaged with the progress the modder’s making by following along on CD Projekt Red’s official forums. Those trying to determine whether or not they want to download the mod and give it a go can get an even better idea at it by checking out some more glorious-looking screenshots there as well. Should one decide to install it, they can obtain the mod right here.
Keeping all of this in mind, perhaps CD Projekt Red’s developers will take SkacikPL’s work into account and implement the option of toggling between first-person and third-person view in their forthcoming game Cyberpunk 2077. Nevertheless, with the studio promising the announcement of its release date in 2017, it’s a safe to say we won’t get many concrete details about the new title’s in-game materials in between now and then, but still, many would surely argue that having the choice of camera control wouldn’t be a bad idea.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is out now and is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
