The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has seen loads of mod support over the past seven years, but it goes without saying that a new mod giving Geralt of Rivia the ability to fart on command is one of the silliest yet. Even so, serious players may want to actually consider installing it, as the benefits it brings to The Witcher 3 extend beyond lending a new meaning to every time Geralt says “wind’s howling.”

Chances are most players are familiar with the game’s toxicity system. Downing The Witcher 3’s various potions and decoctions can provide all sorts of helpful buffs while fighting monsters and exploring, but doing so gradually fills up the toxicity gauge and starts draining Geralt’s health when completely full. It’s a system meant to balance potion usage, sure, but it can prove to be a hassle when one finds themself needing another drink in the middle of a long and difficult battle.

Enter Wild Hunt's “Farting Geralt” mod, which gives players an easy way to get rid of toxicity in perhaps the most childish way possible: through the power of flatulence. By simply pressing the C key (this can be re-mapped if one chooses), Geralt can fart the toxins out of his body, allowing players to avoid the negative effects of potion overuse. It’s the latest creation of thepowerlies, who’s done some other strange things with Witcher 3 mods while also easing up some of the game’s more restrictive systems like weight limit and weapon durability. With this gassy mod, players can get the best of both sides.

As of this writing, it’s not immediately clear if farting away toxicity lets players keep the buffs from potions in use, as Wild Hunt's intended toxin-reducing methods like meditation and White Honey potions cancel out any active effects. Players may be disappointed to know that the mod’s current build only affects the toxicity gauge and won’t result in NPCs and enemies reacting to Geralt’s toots, but there may be hope yet, as thepowerlies implied that they could add fart-specific reactions to NPCs with relative ease.

A mod that gives players the ability to rip toxic farts whenever they want might seem at odds with the overall tone of The Witcher 3. Yet behind the many dark aspects of the game’s world and the overall seriousness of its story, there’s plenty of comedy to be found in Wild Hunt, and the typically gruff Geralt gets more than a few hilarious lines across his various encounters with other characters. Those bits of laughter scattered across a grim setting are part of what makes The Witcher 3 and its world so inviting to players and modders alike and keeps them coming back after seven years.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S slated to launch later this year.
