CD PROJEKT RED’s The Witcher 3 stands out as one of the deepest RPG’s of its era, establishing itself as an instant classic and must play for fans of the genre. The jury might still be out on Cyberpunk 2077, but the developer truly struck gold when putting together the final entry in their trilogy based off of the Andrzej Sapkowski novels of the same name.

As with most games, The Witcher 3 has tons of cut content that has been discovered over the years. Ranging from in-game items to characters and everything in between, the game had plenty that was left out sometime in its development. Fans have discovered some interesting missions that were left out of the final build. These cut missions suggest that White Orchard was supposed to have a ton more content than it finally did. Whether or not that meant that the region was supposed the play a bigger role in the early-game than it did or just suggests that certain missions were weaker than others is up to the audience decide.

10 No Man’s Land

Geralt has no issues with looting in The Witcher 3

This mission starts off routinely, with Geralt getting rid of a Necrophage nest by some farmland. But as is the case with most quests in The Witcher, it comes with an added bit of depth to it. Once finished, Geralt will meet with the quest-giver, Todd, before being approached and offered compensation by another farmer, Dobb.

Geralt can either take or decline the reward, and either tell Todd or keep the information to himself afterwards. Dobbs’ reason for offering his own reward is later revealed to be an attempt at taking advantage of a Nilfgardian law witch allows farmers to take control of land should they offer compensation for a task deemed beneficial to it. As you’d expect, this can end a number of ways. None of them all that pleasant.

9 Swamplands

White Orchard offers players their first look at the fallout from the Nilfgardian conflict firsthand, and the “Swamplands” cut quest would have expanded on that should it remained in the game. This quest starts with Geralt coming across either a group of Nilfgardians in a swamp or some Temerian insurgents near a Drowner nest.

There are a few options that were supposed to be open to players with this quest. Most of them – even those in which Geralt sides with the Temerians – ends in the deaths of the insurgents. Only if Geralt decides to simply destroy the nest on his own do they manage to walk away unscathed.

8 It’s A Setup

Griffin Witcher 3 Griffin School

This quest has more to do with the events of the main quest, but its exclusion from the final game doesn’t really affect anything in the overall narrative. Following the Griffin attack on the merchants cart, Geralt would have found an arrow with a Griffin lure attached. This discovery would lead him to a hunter’s camp.

Confronting the hunters, Geralt would discover that they considered the merchant to be a traitor to Nilfgard, and utilized the arrow in order to punish him. Geralt can then either take justice into his own hands or walk away. Regardless, Geralt also would have had the choice of informing the merchant or keeping quiet.

7 Missing Son

This quest would have had Geralt help a local woman look for her son on the battlefield. While on the lookout for a shield with a certain design, Geralt and the woman would be attacked by Necrophages. The woman’s dog assists Geralt then runs off.

Complying with the woman’s pleas to help her retrieve her dog, Geralt follows it deep into the woods where they come across a boy’s body with a Temerian arrow in it. This suggests that the boy tried to desert during battle and was subsequently shot as a result. Geralt can either lie about what he found or tell her the truth.

6 The Edge of Acting

Dandelion

The only one of these cut quests not to be found in White Orchard, “The Edge of Acting” features a fan favorite character and a humorous set-up. With one of Dandelion’s ballads being turned into a play, Geralt is tasked with helping find the actor set to play him by its director. After discovering that the actor is dead, Geralt offers to take the role up himself, but ends up playing the role of a Sylvan instead.

From this point, Geralt could either say the right lines or improvise for a much more interesting outcome. Succeeding in delivering his lines correctly will earn Geralt an award while failing to do so will get him booed off stage.

5 A Friendly Freak

Geralt in The Witcher 3

This quest seemed to be much more of a loose concept compared to other cut quests found in the game. Overall, “A Friendly Freak” was going to deal with Geralt interacting with some children who’d berated him due to his appearance.

The most concrete idea was to have Geralt show off various Witcher skills and impress the boys, earning him some small rewards as thanks. Other ideas included having one of their fathers showing up to fight Geralt, and having the boys approach the Witcher with a tangible problem to solve.

4 The Thing In The Attic

Triss in The Witcher 3

This quest would have involved two rival sorcerers, Mr. A & Mr. B, where the latter utilized an artifact of compression to trap the former and steal their life’s work. With the research proving to be too dangerous, Mr. B would soon after die, setting up Geralt to come across hos corpse.

After exploring the area, Geralt finds the statuette containing Mr. A, and would then bring it to Triss. Though she manages to free the mage, he is unable to remember anything due to the length of his confinement. Luckily, Triss manages to get him on a boat to Kovir.

3 Freshwater

Noonwraith From The Witcher 3

In a small fisherman’s hut, Geralt is approached by a panicked young man insisting that a mysterious woman is after him. When he goes outside to check, Geralt is greeted by a noonwraith. Investigating the incident further, Geralt would come across a well with a corpse hanging within.

After finding a silver bracelet on the body, Geralt asks around town for more information on the incident. Geralt eventually tracks down the girls sister, tells her of her sister’s condition, and has her place a wreath of immortelles near the gravesite in order to put the spirit to rest. This seems like an early version of what would be the Devil by the Well Contract.

2 Whispers Under The Bridge

Grave Hag From The Witcher 3

This quest involves Geralt interacting with a Water Hag in need of The Witcher’s assistance. The hag claims that she was caught by drowners on the way to confront her husband over an ongoing affair and tasks Geralt with bringing him over to her.

Geralt can either agree to this or look deeper into it, but siding with the hag results in the man’s gruesome death. Interestingly enough, the hag was really the other woman who died during the affair. The man’s actual wife never new of his lechery and passed away years after the affair ended.

1 Until Death Do...

witcher fighting necrophage monsters.

At a nearby romantic hot-spot, Geralt finds the corpses of two lovers beside some empty bottles. Looking around, Geralt concludes that they died via poisoning and manages to discover that each already had a spouse.

It would have also been possible to activate this quest by finding the jilted lovers in the village. Having been abandoned by their partners and lost all of their savings, they task Geralt with finding the runaway couple. After returning the lost orens and claiming a minuscule reward, Geralt discovers that the two are now dating each other.
