It is one of the longer quests in-game and players can get multiple endings based on their choices and actions. One of the first quests from this series is the 'Wine Wars: Belgaard' quest. The quest itself is easy but it branches out into sub-quests that pits players against some challenging enemies.

Acquiring The Quest

The auction for the Belgaard Vineyard takes place at Plegmund's Bridge

To start the quest, all players need to do is check one of the notice boards in Toussaint. There, they will learn about an auction for the Belgaard Vineyard. They will learn the auction is to take place near Plegmend's Bridge, in the northern part of the map. If players have discovered the location already, they can fast-travel to a nearby signpost to get there faster. Otherwise, players can always take a gallop with Roach enjoying the breathtaking scenery of Toussaint as they arrive at the quest marker.

Watch The Argument

Liam and Matilda, possible owners of the Belgaard Vineyard

When players arrive at the location, they will see an argument unfold. Players will learn that Liam de Coronata and Matilda of Vermentino are trying to buy the vineyard. Both of them are interested in the vineyard, however, the ducal clerk will inform them neither of them can buy the vineyard. The clerk will tell them that both of them have some problems in their own vineyards and until they are dealt with, they cannot buy the vineyard. The argument will end and the players will be free to talk to either of them at this point.

Liam's Quest

Liam, the owner of the Coronata Vineyard

To start off this quest, titled 'Wine Wars: Coronata' players need to approach Liam and talk to him. He will ask them to solve the trouble in his vineyard. Players will need to visit areas and clean them of threats which will be marked as points of interest. Players will mainly face Archespores along with two cave trolls and some bandits. In order to get an edge, 'Cursed Oil' and 'Ogre Oil' can be used. Igni is also useful against Archespores and Quen will help players against the trolls. Players can then talk to the Ducal Clerk and inform him that the problems are taken care of. Liam then wins the auction, gets the vineyard and the quest is then completed.

Matilda's Quest

Matilda, the owner of the Vermentino Vineyard

Matilda gives players the 'Wine Wars: Vermentino' quest which plays out similar to the quest given by Liam. She will ask players to rid her of the problems in her vineyard. Players will need to accomplish 5 tasks in total and will face Archespores and some bandits. To prepare, players can make some 'Cursed Oil' and apply it on their silver sword to make their attacks more lethal to the monsters. Alternatively, they can utilize the Igni sign if they don't have the required components for the oil.

They will also face some Rotfiends and some bandits. Rotfiends are vulnerable to 'Necrophage Oil' but are a weaker enemy type against which players will have little trouble. Once the tasks are complete, players will then talk to the Ducal Clerk and tell him the problems have been dealt with. Matilda will then win the auction, get the vineyard, completing the quest.

Deus In The Machina

The Orders on Elegant Stationery are added in the inventory

Players can complete either Liam's or Matilda's route to complete the quest. However, players can start a new quest named 'Wine Wars: Deus In The Machina' where they discover the true reason for the problems in the vineyards. They need to find two 'Orders On Elegant Stationery' and a 'Heavy Brass Key' to raise suspicions of sabotage and acquire the quest. Once it begins, players will need to check a small farmhouse in the south-eastern part of Toussaint.

The key will allow players to get in and they can use their Witcher senses to investigate the area. An Archespore will pop up shortly after that players have to take out. Once the monster is dealt with, players may consider destroying the seedling with Igni as the optional objective. Players will then be free to resume their investigation where they will eventually find a chest with a 'Stocktaking Report'. They will then present this evidence to Liam and Matilda who both get the vineyard which they share happily.

Belgaard: Part 2

Liam and Matilda after they get the vineyard

Regardless of which path players take, a new quest starts where they clear the Belgaard Vineyard of its problems. There are 5 sites in total which they need to clear. First, they need to dispatch a group of Endregas which are infesting the vineyard. Players can utilize Insectoid Oil to give them a damage boost and once they are dealt with, they must destroy their nest with a bomb. Next, they must eliminate some Giant Centipedes near a treasure location. Yrden and Insectoid Oil are effective against them. Thirdly, they must rescue a blacksmith from a group of bandits. Afterward, players can either escort him personally or send him on his own, either way, the objective is completed. Players must then clear an Abandoned Site occupied by a Slyzard. Aard is effective against it, to get it to land and Draconid Oil adds a damage boost; once it's dealt with, the local populace returns and the objective is complete. Lastly, players clear out a monster nest where they will find a group of centipedes. They will simply need to repeat the tactics from before and then throw a bomb into the nest to complete the second part of the quest.
