Remember a couple days back when it was reported that the release date for the Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings would be announced soon? Well, told ya so. Details don’t stop there, however — there are plenty of new incentives for series veterans and newcomers alike to explore the kingdom of Temeria.
After some delay, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and CD Projekt RED confirmed that the magic date set for launch is April 17, 2012. In addition to the big announcement, the companies have given the public some scrumptious new screenshots and details for the console version of one of the most critically acclaimed titles of 2011.
Aside from the fact that this is the first time the RPG series has appeared on a console, which is fantastic in and of itself, it will also include over 3 hours of completely new content and story elements not seen on the PC version. For PC purists worried about a loss of quality, CD Projekt RED has promised that The Witcher 2 has been meticulously adapted for the Xbox 360 and has received some significant enhancements as well — it’s assumed they mean both gameplay and graphics.
Players will have some time to recoup from the holiday influx of games before taking on The Witcher 2, a deep and expansive RPG title that will be an excellent way to occupy the lull that generally happens around these months. Those not privy to The Witcher series should do some research; the series is typically near the top of most game of the year lists. Those wanting the lowdown on the sequel — we got that covered in our Witcher 2 review.
CD Projekt RED is promising that the revered title will not be simply a port of the PC game, but a completely tailored console experience. With a generous set of extras to sweeten the deal, it should be more than enough to put players under The Witcher’s spell.
Update: The console version will come in two flavors: a standard edition and a special “Dark” edition. The standard edition comes with a few goodies, including a world map, quest handbook and the game’s soundtrack. The Dark Edition is all that and a bag of chips — namely a “Making Of DVD, artbook, decals and a Witcher medallion. Check it all out at The Witcher’s official online shop.
