Ever since the Spider-Man: No Way Home release date dropped fans have endlessly speculated over which characters will show up in the third installment of the Tom Holland movies. This latest rumor claims fans may once again see the original Green Goblin, played by Willem Dafoe in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, finally make an appearance in the MCU.

The Green Goblin has always been the staple villain of the Spider-Man comics. He's the father of Peter Parker's best friend, Harry Osborn, and has deep ties to Peter's childhood, which means he's had the access and many years to manipulate and torture Peter at every turn.

This new rumor, which was discussed by Collider's Jeff Sneider on his podcast, hints that Dafoe's version of Green Goblin will be back as the main villain of the film, despite dying in Raimi's first Spider-Man movie. A rumor reported by Fandomwire states that Oscorp, the corporation owned by Norman Osborn, will be part of No Way Home as possibly having bought out The Avengers Tower. Many applauded Dafoe's portrayal of Spider-Man's most complex villain, so he would no doubt be a powerful addition to the already impressive cast.

The return of the Green Goblin could mean a multitude of bad things for Peter, especially after finally establishing a romance with Michelle. Remember the death of Gwen Stacey, anyone? It could also hint at the possibility of fans finally getting to see him alongside the diabolical Sinister Six team. Fans have been clamoring for a Sinister Six sighting ever since it was teased as part of Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man 3, which was canceled in favor of Jon Watts' Spider-Man: Homecoming reboot.

Further speculation of the No Way Home cast hints even harder at a potential Sinister Six plot. There's already a solid start with Jaime Foxx and Alfred Molina confirmed to be returning as Electro and Doctor Octopus. It's also rumored that Thomas Hayden Church will return as Sandman, and that Rhino and The Lizard will also make their returns. With Aaron Taylor Johnson confirmed to play Kraven the Hunter in a spin-off movie, it's possible fans may see his debut first in No Way Home, which would round out the entirety of the Sinister Six.

Paired with the rumors that both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will also make appearances in No Way Home, this film has the potential to be a web of trouble for every Spider-Man fans have seen on the big screen yet.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is slated to hit theaters on December 17.
