The announced line-up of titles for the Wii U thus far is nothing short of impressive - especially considering the image and expectation Nintendo has built with the current Wii console.

Games like Batman: Arkham City, Assassin's Creed and Ninja Gaiden 3 were among the announced titles in development for Nintendo's next console - but what about Mass Effect?

There may be promise in that. In an interview at E3 2011, EA's Frank Gibeau was asked if Mass Effect 3 was in development for the Wii U. Although it wasn't direct, he did craft together an answer that seemingly notes the possibility of some iteration of the Mass Effect universe to exist on the console.

I can't say that we are going to do [Mass Effect 3] on the Wii U, but you can imagine what we could (emphasis added) do with that controller in the Mass Effect universe. It feels like it's a really nice fit. But we'll announce that when it's ready.

Gibeau neither confirmed or denied the possibility of Mass Effect living on the Wii U but, as he did mention, it's easy to imagine a lot of potential with Nintendo's next console since it brings some new technology to the table.

The biggest take away is that he said they will make an announcement "when it's ready," so it seems they might actually be working on it. That said, it's nothing definitive and they could just be in the exploration stage of the new hardware.

As it stands, there is a glimmer of likelihood that the Mass Effect universe may have a presence on the Wii U, but we'll just have to wait for the official announcements.

The Wii U is expected to make it's retail debut after Q1 of 2012, and Mass Effect 3 will hit shelves on March 6th, 2012 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
