Wii Sports is a well remembered Wii title for plenty of players out there, as nearly every single Wii owner likely had a copy of the game. Thanks to Wii Sports being a pack-in title for the Wii, it holds the distinction of being the best selling Nintendo game of all time, selling a staggering 82.9 million copies.

As such, Wii Sports likely holds a special place in a lot of players' hearts and has continued to stay alive in the Nintendo community despite being about 15 years old. Now, one Wii Sports golfing speedrunner going by the username Plyd823 has found a new glitch in the golfing mode that lets players take shots from anywhere on the course.

The glitch is fairly simple to grasp, but it lets players do some pretty incredible things over the course of the Wii golfing game. Plyd823 discovered that if a player disconnects their Wii remote controller during a shot, the player's Mii character will enter into a disconnected state. This state allows players to hit the ball twice, but it also allows players to reconnect in out of bounds zones and hit from there. For example, if a player hits the ball in a pond or lake, disconnects their Wii remote, double hits, and reconnects their Wii remote, that player can take their shot while standing on the water.

Naturally, this glitch will likely change the current Wii Sports golfing speedrun route in a big way. Nintendo games are rife for wacky speedruns, with many Nintendo games have very dedicated, niche communities that take games to their limits. This Wii Sports glitch is just another excellent example of that, considering Wii Sports hasn't had any sort of revival since Wii Sports Club on the Wii U in 2013. Regardless, it's a very impressive find that is sure to breathe some new life into the Wii Sports speedrunning community.

While glitches in Nintendo games aren't the most rare things to find in the gaming industry, Nintendo does have a pretty strong reputation for having very polished games. While some of Nintendo's new titles like Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey have glitches, they're definitely not game breaking and a few and far between. Especially by modern day standards when games like Cyberpunk 2077 are full of bugs and glitches, Nintendo's titles usually have pretty solid performance all around. This is another big reason why this new exploit is such a surprise.

All in all, this is an amazing find for fans of speedrunning. Some of the best games to watch during speedrunning events are the games that players wouldn't think of right away, such as Minecraft or Portal 2's Co-op mode. Hopefully, this glitch brings the Wii Sports speedrunning scene into the spotlight, and even gets some new interested players to join the community.
