Wii Fit is a game that a majority of players have left collecting dust in a box or shelf somewhere, abandoned after a few weeks or months of well-intended physical activity. However, one grandma has not only bucked that trend, but is potentially setting some kind of record having played the original Wii Fit for nearly 5,000 days.

Released at the height of fitness video games' popularity in the 2000sWii Fit is an exercise title for the Nintendo Wii featuring physical activities using a balance board peripheral. The game's successor, Ring Fit Adventure, was released on the Nintendo Switch in October of 2019.

News of the viral grandma comes courtesy of George Perkins, founder of indie physical publisher Super Rare Games. Two years ago, Perkins posted a tweet of his grandmother posing in front of the Wii Fit screen, featuring an impressive 3,949 consecutive days, amounting to over a decade of playtime. While that post may have been from February 2019, just yesterday the Super Rare Games founder posted a heartwarming update. His "Nan" apparently has some serious resolve, playing through the coronavirus pandemic and reaching an astounding 4,784 consecutive days played. This translates to roughly 13 years, long enough to the point where Nintendo has gone through two console generations in the time since she began.

Fans on Twitter lauded the senior's Wii Fit dedication, commenting praise like "What a queen" and "absolutely incredible." Other Twitter users began asking if Guinness has been alerted, believing the achievement to be in the realm of a world record. While there's no word on if the consecutive streak is an actual Guinness World Record for the Nintendo title similar to the one set by a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate player, the feat is likely to be within that realm of possibility.

While George Perkins' grandma's achievement is surely impressive, she isn't the only grandparent to be making gaming headlines. Call of Duty: Warzone streamer TacticalGramma has risen to stardom on TikTok for some of her amazing plays and kill compilations in the battle royale game. The streamer has over 18 thousand followers, with kill compilations racking up millions of views on the platform. While a far cry from the much more tame Wii Fit, it's heartening to see the "boomer" generation getting into the medium the vast majority their kids and grandkids enjoy.

The grandma's Wii Fit accomplishment is a testament to her iron-clad diligence, and shows how certain video games hold can retain value even after thousands of hours in the right hands. Here's hoping George Perkins' grandma makes it to 5,000 and beyond.
