Back in May, actress Ruby Rose stated she would be departing from the CW's Batwoman show after only one season, leaving fans to wonder why. Now in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rose has gone into detail on her reasoning, and how the ongoing pandemic played a part in her decision.

When the Coronavirus pandemic began, pretty much everyone in television found their work grinding to a halt, and the actress took that time to consider her options carefully. It was not a decision made hastily, and Rose found herself deeply considering the challenges and hardships she had endured during the filming of the show.

Perhaps most notable was the back injury she suffered on set, which ultimately required her to go into surgery. Afterwards Rose decided to get right back into filming, a decision she now regrets. "Being the lead of a superhero show is tough. Being the lead in anything is tough. But I think, in that particular instance, it was a lot more difficult because I was still recovering from my surgery. I had my surgery and then 10 days later I went to work, which maybe wasn't the best idea."

Though her injury was certainly an important factor, it wasn't the only one. Rose also spent a lot of time talking to producers and considering her own career path going forward. "You know, you have time in quarantine and sort of isolation to just think about a lot of different things and what you want to achieve in life and what you want to do. I think for both [me and the producers], it was a great opportunity to have a dialogue about a lot of things."

Regardless of her own reasons for leaving the show, Rose was still positive about the experience, remarking: "I think it was actually a beautiful way to do something, especially since that was the first time it's ever been done — the first time Batwoman has ever been played in live-action and that she was LGBTQ. I'm very honored to have been able to play her." She also wished the next Batwoman, Javicia Leslie, well, saying she was excited to see her performance: "I think she definitely knows what she's doing and she seems fantastic."

Season 2 of Batwoman will air on the CW in January of 2021.
