However, it was swiftly confirmed that the sequel would be more focused on the new generation of ninjas, and leading the next generation would be Boruto Uzumaki, the son of Naruto Uzumaki. At the time of the announcement, no one had any idea about Boruto and his characteristics. After Boruto: Naruto The Movie came out, the fans were absolutely furious with Boruto. So, what started this huge chain of hatred towards Boruto Uzumaki?

Boruto: Naruto The Movie focused on the Otsutsuki invasion of the Hidden Leaf. Two members of the Otsutsuki Clan, Momoshiki, and Kinshiki made their way to Earth. They wanted to punish Kaguya Otsutsuki and take the chakra fruit, but they were surprised to find Kaguya missing. So, they decided to get their hands on the chakra fruit instead. While exploring, they managed to locate the Hidden Leaf because of Naruto's immense chakra.

Naruto and the rest of the Kage were aware that there might have to deal with a high-level threat, but they couldn't cancel the Chunin Exams. In the exams, Boruto used a scientific tool, which was given to him by Katasuke. For a decent amount of time, no one was aware of Boruto's actions, but it all came to light when he fought against Shikadai Nara. During their fight, Boruto was cornered by the prodigy of the Nara clan, so once again Boruto had to rely on the scientific tool to turn the tide of the battle in his favor. This led to Shikadai admitting defeat, but Naruto finally picked up on this uncanny incident. He asked Hinata to use her Byakugan to scan Boruto, and to her surprise, she found that he was wearing something on his arm.

Once Naruto got the confirmation from Hinata, he approached his son and disqualified Boruto from the exams. This incident shocked every Naruto fan and caused them to detest Boruto. The main reason behind their hatred was that Boruto had managed to tarnish Naruto's reputation, which took him years to build. One of the biggest differences between Naruto and Boruto is their talent. While Naruto struggled to utilize the power of the Nine-Tails, Boruto is already able to use Karma. He managed to add Lightning Release to the Rasengan, a feat that even Kakashi Hatake was unable to replicate. Clearly, in terms of skill at their respective ages, Boruto is undoubtedly more talented than Naruto, and despite all his talent, Boruto relied on cheating, which did not paint a pretty picture.

Comes Off As Very Entitled

Naruto had a horrendous childhood. He had absolutely no one to take care of him, and for the majority of his childhood, Naruto had to live on his own. With time, the villagers started to respect Naruto and treated him as their messiah. His role in the Fourth Great Ninja War cemented his position as one of the greatest ninjas of all time. As the story progressed, it became extremely evident that Naruto had to struggle to live a good life. It is only because of Naruto's efforts, that the next generation, including Boruto, is able to live a relatively peaceful life.

Boruto and the rest of the newer generation did not have to witness wars and bloodshed. They were raised in a relatively peaceful environment. As the Hokage, Naruto continues to put in extra effort to ensure that harmony prevails throughout the world. Despite seeing Naruto's workload, Boruto wanted his father to spend more time with his family. It was clear that Naruto only stayed at the office because of work, but Boruto was not ready to understand. He even brought up Naruto's parents, which was a very silly thing to do, and it infuriated the fans further.

Realization

Boruto Chapter 73 mission

When Boruto met Sasuke, the latter explained to him how Naruto used to be in the past. Sasuke made Boruto understand that while growing up, Naruto was labeled a failure and a monster. Eventually, Boruto did realize the importance of having a dad, and he started to respect Naruto a lot more.

However, Naruto fans could not forgive him so easily. The team behind Boruto manga hasn't helped either. On various occasions, they have treated Naruto and the rest of the old generation very harshly. In the fight against Isshiki, Naruto lost Kurama, who was one of his closest friends. Things worsened when Sasuke's Rinnegan was destroyed by Boruto, who was under Momoshiki's control. It is unfair to blame Boruto for these incidents, but when the manga has been ruining the reputation and the image of some of the main characters from Naruto, it is not easy to overlook such a thing.

While Boruto is not so likable, he has improved a lot. Boruto is now fully aware of his father's greatness, and he looks up to him. The fans also need to keep in mind that Boruto is still a kid, and it is not fair to hold a grudge against someone so young. Currently, Boruto is headed down the right path, so it might not be long before Naruto fans start respecting Boruto.
