Whoopi Goldberg announced that the script to Sister Act 3 (as yet untitled), a legacy threequel to her 1992 and 1993 hits, Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, is ready to go. She also said that she wants Jimmy Fallon to show up.

Fans rejoiced when Disney announced the third outing from their Sister Act franchise, a beloved duology from the early 1990s that featured Goldberg as a Vegas lounge singer going undercover as a nun. However, it took almost three decades for the announcement to be made.

Disney, seeking out original content for Disney Plus and hearing fan demand for another entry, has ordered up a third helping of Nunsense. Goldberg says the script is ready to go, and she wants a Fallon cameo if she can get it. She revealed the good news when she appeared on Fallon's The Tonight Show, and after her annunciation, cleverly asked Fallon if he’d like to appear in the movie when it gets made. Whoopi made mention of a recurring gag on the old Adam West Batman series, in which Batman and Robin would climb a building and a guest star—think the Addams Family or Jerry Lewis—would pop their head out of a window and ask them to keep it down. She then asked Fallon if he’d pop his head out in Sister Act 3, and he replied, “Yes! Are you kidding me? To be in Sister Act 3? Of course, I would do that, I would do anything for you."

The Sister Act movies are about a Vegas lounge singer who goes undercover in a witness protection program to get away from her mobster boyfriend played by Harvey Keitel. She then returns to the convent that hid her to aid their students in a sort of musical take on the Edward James Olmos film, Stand and Deliver. Interest in a third film would spark now and again, but despite various cast members saying they’d come back, nothing was pursued by Disney, whose 1990s adult shingle, Touchstone Pictures, produced it. A third Sister Act fits since Disney has gotten into the game of legacy sequels - the Hocus Pocus films and Sister Act movies even share Kathy Najimy—and now that the script is done, it would appear that the project can start gathering steam and moving ahead.

Goldberg, once one of America’s darlings on the acting scene when she hit big in the 1980s with films like The Color Purple, Jumping Jack Flash, and Ghost, while also starring as Guinan, the bartender/psychiatrist to the crew on Star Trek: The Next Generation, has spent most of the last 15 years moderating the ABC's current events shout-fest, The View. She’s returned to acting in recent years with a starring turn as Mother Abigail on CBS's new adaptation of The Stand and returning to her Star Trek role on Star Trek: Picard.

Sister Act 3 currently has no release date. Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit can be seen on Disney Plus.
