Korean Horror Game Headed to PS4, PC This Summer - White Day character

Last year, Sony confirmed that a remake of the 2001 cult horror game White Day: A Labyrinth Named School would be making its way to PlayStation VR. Now ROI Games has released a new trailer for the Korean horror game, revealing that it will launch this August for both PS4 and PC.

An exact release date for White Day: A Labyrinth Named School hasn't been nailed down, but the new trailer offers fans their first glimpse of the game in a long while. Per the new trailer, it's clear that the game is getting a visual upgrade from the 2001 original, though it will retain the same plot of students being trapped in a haunted high school overnight. The same first-person survival-horror elements that defined the original should be on full display in the remake as well.

Since White Day: A Labyrinth Named School was able to make a name for itself in the past despite only releasing in Korea, the new version stands a good shot at being one of the bigger horror games of the year. Its status as a virtual reality title may give it an additional edge over the competition, as early VR horror games have proven to be fairly popular, like Capcom's Resident Evil 7, for example.

White Day's new worldwide release gives it a chance to become a globally-recognized brand. Perhaps if the game is able to achieve the same level of success in other regions as it did in Korea, we may see it blossom into a full-fledged horror franchise.

Of course, there's one thing that could work against White Day's release outside of Korea. While being a VR title may give it more attention than it would have otherwise received, it's worth noting that VR sales haven't been as strong as analysts initially predicted. This is arguably due to the lack of a killer IP for any of the major VR headsets, but maybe White Day could be the software that finally helps VR hardware reach its sales potential.

With White Day's launch right around the corner, horror fans don't have to wait long to find out if it the Korean horror game is worth buying VR hardware for or not.

White Day: A Labyrinth Named School will launch this August for PC, PS4, and PlayStation VR.
