[Epic Games has officially confirmed via Twitter that downtime will commence on March 10 (Friday) at 2 AM ET. After a couple of hours, Fortnite Chapter 4, Season 2, will start. We've added the tweet below. The original guide is as follows]

The start of a new Fortnite season is always exciting. Each lasts about three months - just enough time for players to get through the Battle Pass and uncover every nook and cranny of the map. However, once they've done everything there is to do, it's all about waiting for a new season to drop.

Chapter 4 Season 1 is coming to an end, and most Fortnite players are at the edge of their seats waiting for Season 2, so they can explore all the novelties that will be added to it and start unlocking new Battle Pass rewards right away. This article will explain exactly when players can expect to jump out of the Season 2 battle bus for the first time.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 should be live early on Thursday, March 9.

Previously, Chapter 4 Season 1 was supposed to end on March 10, but Epic Games unexpectedly changed this. To make up for these lost days, from March 2 onwards, players got a Supercharged XP boost from completing in-game milestones. Upon announcing the date change, Epic Games revealed that Chapter 4 Season 1 will end on March 8 instead.

Although the exact time for the end of the season hasn't been revealed, it will probably work the same way as it always has when seasons come to an end and when content updates drop. Downtime will most likely start at 4 AM ET, and matchmaking should be disabled an hour or so before the servers go down; this is done so players can finish their match without losing any progress.

To get an early XP boost, players that have already finished the Battle Pass can delay doing Fortnite Cipher quests and complete them once the new season has started.

Since this is a new season and not a new chapter, servers shouldn't be down for that long; however, just like any content update, the game should be inaccessible for a couple of hours. Players can check out the official Epic Games Public Status page to receive updates on how game maintenance is doing.

With excitement running through most gamers, it is likely that too many players will attempt to log in at the same time, which could overflow the servers and cause a queue. It is common for players to download the update, attempt to enter the game, and then be stuck in a queue with an estimated waiting time of 30 minutes or more.

Fortnite is available on mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
