Wick's Recovery After The Third Film

By the end of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the master assassin had through numerous sword fights and gunplay, chopped off his own finger, and gotten shot by Winston, causing him to fall off a building. Wick was left in excruciating pain, along with the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne), who was punished with seven slices for helping John kill nemesis Santino D'Antonio in the second film.

Based on the recent teaser trailer, Wick is shown recovering from his injuries by training to punch with his left hand since cutting off his ring finger. Wick and the Bowery King definitely want vengeance against the High Table for all the pain they've suffered.

Who Are Wick's Allies?

While the Bowery King will assist John on their quest to go after the High Table, there may be other allies as well. Despite shooting John, Winston most likely did that in order to protect him from getting killed and to convince the High Table to reopen his Continental residence in New York. Winston will continue to support Wick since he's like a son to him, and they've always had each other's backs.

Hiroyuki Sanada (who worked with Reeves in 47 Ronin) will star in this sequel, and from his brief appearance in the trailer, it's unclear if he's Wick's friend or foe (or a bit of both). However, Sanada's character appears to be Wick's ally who warns him that it's impossible to kill everyone. Halle Berry's role as Sofia (from the third film) isn't likely to have a large role in this sequel, but perhaps she could make a surprise cameo. John Leguizamo was last seen in the second film, making this a great opportunity to bring his character Aurelio back since he's Wick's friend (and is fixing his Mustang).

The Villains In John Wick 4

After hundreds of kills, Wick's body count will continue to rise in this new film. Bill Skarsgård (Pennywise from the recent horror franchise It) appears to portray the new central villain of the series and is likely the leader or a high-ranking member of the High Table. Based on the trailer, Skarsgård is sinister, especially when seemingly chopping off an assassin's finger.

Actor and martial artist Donnie Yen will also star, looking to be one of several assassins who battles Wick with a sword and a gun at the same time. There's also veteran actor Clancy Brown (well known for his villainous roles in Dexter: New Blood and The Shawshank Redemption) who is another new assassin with a nice suit (and a missing finger) who shows up at Winston's Continental. Just like the previous films, other contract killers around the world associated with the Continental will go after Wick for the large price tag on his head. The Elder is also someone Wick might need to watch out for, since John broke their agreement by refusing to kill Winston.

How Will Wick Find The High Table?

Wick has been all over the world (New York, Rome, Morocco), which raises the question of his latest destination. One of the best elements of this series is seeing the Continental in various countries, including the assassins, the hotels, and individuals in charge of weaponry and bullet-proof wardrobe. Perhaps Wick has another resourceful location where he can get more guns, knives, and suits.

The High Table must also have a residency of its own, with plenty of top-level security waiting for Wick's arrival. This unique organization may also hold essential secrets, such as why they intend to take over New York and/or other Continental residencies. Wick warned the Bowery King about the High Table in the second film, which is why they will both work together to wage war against the evil empire.

Is Chapter 4 The Beginning Of The End?

Keanu Reeves John Wick 4

With the fourth film set for release next year and a fifth movie currently in development, many fans are wondering how long the franchise will go on. Reeves has stated that he will still play Wick if the films continue to be successful. The fifty-seven-year-old actor shows no signs of slowing down, receiving praise not only for his portrayal of Wick, but for his devotion to martial arts and weapons training in order to make his character authentic on screen.

The series seems to be nearing the end since Wick is battling the High Table, the biggest threat he's faced thus far. However, as each film has proven, Wick's enemies only get bigger and more villainous. Perhaps by the fifth feature, there will be an enemy greater than the High Table. There could also be more info on Wick's past, including his special relationship with his late wife Helen. No matter how many sequels are planned, the John Wick franchise will keep on satisfying old-school action fans around the world.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is set for release on March 24, 2023.
