Marvel Studios’ What If…? has just received a mid-season sneak peek trailer that offers fans a look at some of the things they can expect from the remaining episodes. So far, with five episodes released, the show has offered a look at some popular tales from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, albeit with a small variation in the storyline.

The trailer sets up the heroes who will go on to become guardians of the Multiverse, most of whom fans have met in What If…? already. These heroes include Captain Carter, Steve Rogers, Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa as Star-Lord, Doctor Strange, Black Widow, Bucky Barnes, Hawkeye, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Nick Fury, Loki, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Thanos, Hulk, Gamora, Killmonger, Vision, and The Watcher.

What If…? is halfway through its first season, which will consist of nine episodes in total. It has been an interesting journey for fans so far, witnessing things that have never occurred in the MCU thus far. Over the course of the past five episodes, the series has explored unimaginable things like Peggy Carter taking the super-soldier serum and becoming Captain Carter, all the way to a zombie apocalypse that has affected most of the Avengers.

What’s interesting to note is that the What If...? trailer consistently refers to the Multiverse, which has already been established in Disney Plus’ Loki. When What If…? was launched, it was confirmed that everything in the show will be MCU canon. Therefore, the evil version of Doctor Strange destroying the world and zombie Thanos arriving in Wakanda could all potentially have an impact on how things move forward in the MCU.

Another interesting aspect of the What If...? trailer is the introduction of the “Guardians of the Multiverse” in a shot very similar to the one in 2012’s Avengers where the heroes assemble for the first time. While it isn’t clear what the threat will be that these heroes will have to go up against, it seems like some of the characters who fans have met in the What If…? episodes so far will be reappearing in later episodes to save the Multiverse. It also seems to confirm that the heroes, who are currently in their own respective worlds, will unite over a singular timeline.

What If…? is streaming on Disney Plus.
