West of Loathing is a game about an ambitious cowpoke heading out into the wild black and white yonder to seek their fortune. Sometimes a 'body needs some extra Meat out there on the lonesome prairie, and there are a few different locations that can trade those buffalo bones or golden teeth for the primary in-game currency.

Every city has a shop that does some trading, and there are also locations in the wilderness along with a few other more obscure locations that can fly under a cowpoke's nose. When it's time to trade, and that means both buying and selling, here are the choices West of Loathing has to offer.

Brade The Trader's Stand

This location is part of the introduction to the game that includes Boring Springs, and after a character finishes it once, the player has the option of skipping it for others.

Brade's is barely a shop, carrying only a few items that the vendor doesn't sell for Meat but trades for specific items, which means he doesn't buy anything.

Dirtwater Mercantile

A big city like Dirtwater is going to have a proper trading post, and this one not only has everything an adventurer needs but will also buy anything and everything they come across in the desert.

Keep an eye out for books that train up a character's class or items that can be traded with other NPCs, like bars of soap. Other useful things include tools that can be used on lifts and mining equipment, like a monkey wrench or pickaxe.

  • Additional Dirtwater Locations. These are merchants that appear on Dirtwater's main street in the "Lot Available" spaces depending on which quests the protagonist finishes as the story progresses. Examples include Hot Dog and Liquid Bread Brewing Company. These vendors only sell specific goods but will buy anything in exchange for Meat.

Halloway's Hideaway

Likely one of the last shops the player will discover, and only if they have Gary the Goblin as their Pardner, because his shop is located in the far northern reaches of the Coastal section of the map.

Hab Halloway is being hard to find on purpose, as he'll be happy to explain, but he still has some limited goods for sale and will buy anything the player wants to sell.

Buttonwillow's Store

Not only does Buttonwillow have class training books in stock, but you can also find books on lockinpickin', meat findin', and cookin'. A handy location when it's time to make or spend some Meat without going all the way back to Dirtwater.

Rescue Mission

As the name suggests, this is a location for first aid and other related medical supplies. The kind sister here will also buy anything the player wants to sell.

That includes First Aid kits for use in battle along with items like laudanum, which the player can use to give their character a handy buff or give it to Ellsbury in the Jewel Saloon to hear a wacky story.

The Silver Plater

Wandering around in the wilds, the character will find a location called the Silversmith's House. There's no vendor here, but inspecting the bookshelf within will reveal the location of the Silver Plater further north.

The Silver Plater doesn't buy anything. He only "plates" certain types of gear and weapons with silver so they do more damage to hellcows, skeletons, and ghosts.

Last Custard Stand

A play on the term "Custard's Last Stand" is a reference to an old story that's a harsh lesson about all colonial ventures, the only thing this vendor sells is custard.

There are three different kinds, all delicious and awarding of buffs that will last the whole day, and they'll buy goods the player wants to sell.

Wanderin' Sally's Camp

Wanderin' Sally's inventory changes every time she appears, so make sure the Meat is available to buy her wares. She carries training books for classes and skills along with other handy goods relating to fighting and questing.

The Breadwood Trading Post

There are a lot of puns in West of Loathing, and this is one of them. Find the Breadwood Trading Post in the Buttery Biscuit, the saloon in Breadwood.

The town location opens up when the player has to build a bridge so the train can continue to Frisco.

The Circus Vendors

The Circus is like a town because it has various booths, shops, and tents. The following vendors only sell specific items, all for a typical carnival markup, and don't buy anything.

  • Hot Food. This is also the Lost and Found, in which the player needs to obtain certain items and finish circus errands.
  • Cold Drinks. In new-fangled sealed bottles, certain kinds of soda, including ginger beer and sasparilla.
  • Tepid Candy. Cotton candy, essentially, that will give the character a Speed buff for the day.

  • Barkeeps. Any barkeeps or saloon cooks will sell whiskey or simple food. The barkeep in Clooney's, the fancy bar in Frisco, is the only one who buys as well as sells.
  • Hippies. The NPCs in the Lazy-A Dude Ranch will sell or trade certain items. Visit the Fort of Darkness to buy items like mushrooms or extracts.
  • Goblins. If the player speaks Goblin or has Gary as their pardner, they can often barter or buy a Goblin character instead of fighting them.
  • Random Encounters. The player will meet NPCs in the wild that they can fight or trade with depending on their skills like Outfoxin', or stats such as Muscle or Moxie.
  • The Jeweler's Cabin. Come to this location to see if the resident jeweler, a rather temperamental artist named Master Gerald, and he'll inspect the character's inventory for any gems or stones of a high-enough quality to be turned into jewelry.
