Wednesday, the brand-new Netflix original series, landed on the streaming platform in record-breaking fashion. The Tim Burton executive-produced series ended its first week atop the Netflix Top 10 chart with an accumulated 341.2 million hours viewed. The ground-breaking total gives The Addams Family spin-off series the record for the most hours viewed in a week, beating the record once held by the highly-acclaimed original series, Stranger Things 4.

The Netflix original series, starring Jenna Ortega as the iconic Wednesday Addams, hit the streamer on November 23rd ahead of the holiday weekend. The series follows Wednesday as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her psychic abilities. While navigating Nevermore, she seeks answers to mysteries involving her parents and a monster plaguing the local town. Alongside Ortega, the series stars Gwendoline Christie, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, and Christina Ricci.

Netflix announced Wednesday's record-breaking performance, stating that the series now holds the record for the most viewed hours in a week for an English-language series on the platform. Stranger Things 4 previously held the title, generating roughly 335 million hours viewed at the end of its first week. While impressive, the total viewership hours generated by Wednesday still falls short of the all-time record holder, Squid Game, which ended its debut week with 571.8 million hours viewed.

The Addams Family spin-off series has been received relatively well by critics and audiences, with many eager to see Burton's first dive into television. The record-breaking series currently has a 70% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, followed by an 88% audience score. Netflix has not announced the arrival of a second season for Wednesday, but all signs seem to be hinting that a second season could be arriving later down the road. Netflix recently renewed The Sandman for a second season, which opens the doors of hope to see Ortega return to the emblematic role.

Coming in second behind Wednesday on the Netflix Top 10 chart was the mind-binding original series 1899, which drew 87.89 million hours viewed. Falling in third place was the fifth season of The Crown, followed by Dead to Me season 3 and the fourth season of Manifest. It will be interesting to see how long Wednesday can defend its coveted spot on the chart as new and exciting series from the streamer loom on the horizon.

Wednesday is currently available to stream on Netflix.
