We Are OFK has been one of the standout upcoming indie games ever since its reveal at The Game Awards in 2020. The game is positioned as a biographical story of a fictional pop band named OFK, as they rise to popularity and overcome personal struggles while creating their debut EP. After almost two years since the music-based video game's reveal, We Are OFK is finally gearing up for its debut as an episodic release on August 18th.

We Are OFK is one of the most recent examples of a game's narrative blending with its marketing, as the game was originally revealed at The Game Awards 2020 with a performance from its titular virtual band. Ever since then, it has appeared at numerous events such as Sony's State of Play showcases and Nintendo's Indie World with teases towards the lives and relationships of the characters that will feature in the game, as well as teases through music releases such as the band's debut song "Follow/Unfollow."

Last month, developer Team OFK confirmed that the game finished development while also teasing that a release date announcement would shortly follow. Today, the developer has revealed that the game will debut on August 18th in the form of an episodic release, with each new episode releasing weekly alongside a new single that will be available for digital streaming, joining the ranks of other video game soundtracks on services like Spotify. Eventually, the five episodes will correlate with the 5 tracks to create the band's debut EP.

The game follows a group of four friends as they try to balance their relationship struggles and busy lives with establishing themselves in the L.A. music scene and eventually release their debut EP. The episodes of the game are described on the game's Steam page as part of an "interactive animated series," and five interactive music videos. The game also features voice acting from the likes of Ally Maki (Toy Story 4), Syhaya Aviel (The Circle), Greg Chun (Judgment), Yuri Lowenthal (Marvel's Spider-Man), and Kimberly Brooks (Mass Effect).

Physical pre-orders for We Are OFK are available now from iam8bit for the PS5 and Nintendo Switch versions, which are slated to ship Q3 2022. Alongside them is a 2xLP vinyl soundtrack of both the EP and in-game soundtrack, which will ship Q1 2023. It's not yet known what price point the game's episodes will launch at, however the full physical version on iam8bit is currently priced at $29.99. The game is also available to wishlist now on the PlayStation Store, Steam, and Nintendo eShop.

We Are OFK's first episode will release on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and PS5 on August 18.
