While Sony and Microsoft gamers are busy comparing Watch Dogs’ resolutions on the Xbox One and the PS4 or deciding if the exclusive content for the PS3 and PS4 is enough reason to go out and buy a PlayStation console, Nintendo fans are likely still celebrating the fact that the game will actually be released on the Wii U. Ubisoft squashed rumors that the Wii U version was cancelled by explaining the delayed release of the port, but up until now we hadn’t heard an official release window for the Nintendo version.

Although many consumers were expecting a release date pretty far down the line, according to a listing on the Uplay store, Wii U owners may be getting in on the open-world hacking action as early as Fall 2014. Watch Dogs launches on May 27 for the other consoles, so if Ubisoft delivers on the fall release window, it will only put Nintendo owners a few months behind the rest of the pack.

Here’s a look at the listing on Ubisoft’s Uplay store:

Watch Dogs Nintendo Fall 2014

Nintendo Enthusiast contacted an Ubisoft representative who confirmed that the game is targeting a Fall 2014 release date for the Wii U. The European Uplay store has the Wii U version listed with a May 27 release, along with the rest of the platforms, but it seems highly likely that is an error.

The Wii U version will be arriving a few months tardy in order to give the developers time to explore Nintendo’s Gamepad technology. Hopefully, the additional development time will lead to some uniquely Wii U features for the game that could make the extra wait worth it for gamers who are holding out for the Nintendo version. That said, the Wii U port would have to offer some pretty great features to give consumers motivation to miss out on the first few months of potential playtime.

Time will tell, but it seems pretty unlikely that gamers who own multiple consoles will wait for the Wii U version just to see what enhancements the Gamepad can bring to the table. The hype surrounding Watch Dogs has been building for quite some time now and our bet is that consumers will want to get their hands on it as soon as possible.

Do you plan on waiting for the Wii U version of Watch Dogs or will you be hacking away on May 27? Let us know in the comments.
