An all-new in-engine trailer for Watch Dogs Legion was released for the upcoming open-world action game during Sunday's Ubisoft Forward broadcast. The trailer covered a lot of ground in a short amount of time, introducing two of Watch Dogs Legion's villains, gameplay from multiple different characters, and also the game's release date. For those new to Watch Dogs or excited about the sequel, it's a quick introduction to everything the game is trying to accomplish.

Watch Dogs Legion is set in a Britain gone wrong. Not only has an independent paramilitary police force taken authoritarianism to a new level, but the criminal underground is prospering alongside it. That's why two of Watch Dogs Legion's villains were announced in parallel. There's Nigel Cass, CEO of Albion, the private police force hired to establish order in Britain. There's also Mary Kelley, head of Britain's biggest criminal enterprise.

Opposing these forces in Watch Dogs Legion is, well, everyone. Players will be able to recruit and control virtually every other encounterable character in the open-world. These unique characters will allow players to take on the game's missions in clever ways. Some examples include a construction worker with a large wrench and hacking ability, a drunk hooligan who likes to fight, a turncoat Albion officer with special access, and a hitman who assassinates people.

The trailer closed out by revealing Watch Dogs Legion's release date. The open-world game will be available on current-gen consoles and PC starting October 29, with next-gen support "coming soon." While Ubisoft would likely very much have preferred the state of the world to not be as it is in 2020, Watch Dogs Legion is still nearing completion, for better or worse.

After Ubisoft Forward ended, Ubisoft also shared some details about how Watch Dogs Legion will be released, as well as some initial post-launch plans. Watch Dogs Legion will be available in four different editions. The standard edition includes just the base game,  the Gold Edition includes the Seasons Pass, and the Ultimate Edition includes both the Season Pass and Ultimate content, said to be a month of "VIP Status" and certain playable heroes. The Watch Dogs Legion Collector's Edition is a retail box that includes a variety of exclusive merchandise.

Regarding what the Season Pass of Watch Dogs Legion includes, Ubisoft wasn't specific. What it did say is that it will feature  "new story expansions," extra DedSec missions," and "four unique heroes." A copy of the original Watch Dogs Complete Edition will also be included.

Watch Dogs Legion releases October 29  on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with next-gen systems to follow.
