Ubisoft's Watch Dogs: Legion development team has released a statement of its own following a surprising reveal of three different game delays within the company this earlier this week. Speaking to the game's development process, the statement shared via its official Twitter account reaffirmed that more time was needed to deliver the team's "ambitious vision" for Legion.
On Thursday, Ubisoft gave a press release announcing the delay of three upcoming titles: Gods & Monsters, Watch Dogs: Legion, and Rainbow Six Quarantine. Rainbow Six didn't have a release date yet, but the other two would've been released in February and March of 2020 respectively; now, none of them have concrete release dates anymore.
In the statement issued just after Ubisoft's press release, the Watch Dogs: Legion development team cited several key elements of the game that needed more time to be perfected, including the "Play as Anyone" feature which allows players to take control of any and every NPC. This mechanic is part of the team's loftier goal of building Watch Dogs: Legion in such a way that it "changes the way you play and think about open-world games," and the dev team agreed with Ubisoft that putting off the game's release was the best decision.
"We are embracing this opportunity to take additional time to deliver this ambitious vision at the best possible level of quality and bring our near-future London to life in the way it deserves... We are confident this will ensure Watch Dogs: Legion is the immersive, innovative experience we set out to create, and the one you aspire to play."
That being said, with Watch Dogs: Legion's March 6, 2020 release date scrapped, in part due to prior disappointing Ubisoft game releases, there's no replacement date from Ubisoft or the dev team yet. Both the team and company seem optimistic despite the indefinite release of the game; Ubisoft's press release said that every one of the games had a "strong identity and high potential." As of right now, all three games are slated to release at some point during the next fiscal year, meaning sometime between April 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021. This will likely come as a disappointment to fans, but there's still at least a good chance that most, if not all of the games will still release sometime in 2020.
Until more news comes, either from Ubisoft or from Watch Dogs: Legion's development team, fans will just have to content themselves with knowing that both are taking the quality of Watch Dogs Legion game seriously. Hopefully, a new release date is penciled in soon!
Watch Dogs: Legion will be available for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
