A gamer has shared a video of themselves traversing the entire Watch Dogs 2 map, all from the same perspective. The video was quite the feat, requiring a substantial amount of time to complete.

Watch Dogs 2 took players to San Francisco, California, putting them in the shoes of a hacker named Marcus. The game offered a surprisingly realistic and accurate look of the San Francisco Bay Area, with the team making trips to the area to ensure its accuracy, and the time lapse video shows all the details that went into it.

Reddit user and YouTuber GameLapse frequently shares videos of themselves in various games, walking across the landscapes or taking time to see the day roll by from a single perspective. In this video, the player starts up their phone and then proceeds to walk backwards through the entirety of Watch Dogs 2's map. Although the game came out six years ago, the graphics still look pretty good, and it would be easy to mistake for the real thing when put in fast forward like this.

Time lapses take a lot of effort and time to complete, and this one is no exception. GameLapse notes that it took just under three hours to walk across the entirety of the map. As time has gone on, open world games have developed bigger maps, so time lapse videos like this will likely become even more time-consuming in the future. However, some gamers have already put an immense amount of time into videos like these with existing maps, as the Watch Dogs 2 map is relatively small in comparison to other game series like Just Cause or Fallout.

Unfortunately, Watch Dogs has become a bit stagnant over the years, with no news on a fourth release in the pipeline. Fans have worried that the Watch Dogs series may have been shelved. Some team members who worked on the Watch Dogs series have since left the company, further increasing doubts and concerns. Of course, Ubisoft always has plenty of projects in the works, so it may simply be a matter of putting it on hold until there are enough resources to focus on it.

Support for the sequel, Watch Dogs Legion, ended earlier this year with the release of the game's final Bloodline DLC. For now, players will have to look to other upcoming open world games for a similar experience, like the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6. With any luck, Watch Dogs will see a continuation that elevates the series further at some point in the future.

Watch Dogs 2 is available now for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.
