Releasing late last month for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, Wasteland 3 has quickly become one of the best-reviewed games of the year, netting a solid 86 on Metacritic. The title is arguably the best in the series to date, with critics citing its choice and consequence mechanics and engaging combat as being far more expansive and well-implemented overall.

However, it seems not everything in the third entry of the Wasteland series is perfect, with players reporting that the sequel's co-op mode currently has a number of significant technical issues. According to numerous sources, the game is something of a mess when experienced with a friend, with players even claiming that a major glitch resets hours of progress for those unlucky enough to encounter it.

One source that published a significant deep-dive on the issue was Polygon, with author Cass Marshal reporting that their time with the new RPG had seen some severe bugs and technical mishaps. "The first night we tried, we were unable to connect. We were also unable to connect on our third day, despite some previous successes. The lobby simply refused to acknowledge that the other player had joined," Marshal claims when discussing some initial issues. Eventually, they got into a game, playing a significant portion of it with a co-op partner. However, the pair eventually came up against a widely reported game-breaking bug, with Marshal revealing that the home base "had completely reverted to its original state... there was no way to progress or reset the game besides reloading a previous save."

Heading over to the game's Steam page brings up various stories similar to Marshal's, with one fan claiming "Co-op WL3 is a glitchfest. Don't ever use 'autosave' in co-op mode or you can lose half your progress." Another explained a game-breaking bug they experienced in the multiplayer mode, claiming "while returning to a location we got [our] main quest restarted and all playable characters appeared in the garage which is locked on the outside so you can't get out." Evidently, the game is borderline unplayable with a friend right now, so those looking to purchase Wasteland 3 as a fun cooperative experience should be wary.

Luckily, ‎inXile Entertainment has acknowledged that they'll be fixing the issues in the coming weeks, reporting on Twitter that "we'll have patches and fixes rolling out as quickly as possible to address [known issues], including console stability and co-op." It seems the fanbase will be able to jump into a more stable cooperative post-apocalyptic adventure in the coming weeks.

Wasteland 3 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
