WB Games Montreal, the development studio behind Batman: Arkham Origins, is currently hiring for two separate AAA titles to be set in the DC universe.
According to a post on WB Games Montreal's job listings page, the company is looking for fresh talent to develop a couple of new games based on DC Comics that are "focused on expanding the DC Comics universe in the interactive space” beyond the world it crafted with Batman: Arkham Origins. The positions are quite diverse, ranging from artists and designers to software developers and programmers, so it seems as if the studio is looking to build two DC-centric titles from the ground up.
Back in June, there were rumors of WB Games Montreal working on a new game based on similar job listings, but the only concrete details to go on as far as what its content would be was its description as an open world action title for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Now with the confirmation that the projects are intent on fleshing out the rest of DC Comics' universe, it's safe to assume that it's not a continuation of Batman: Arkham Origins. However, there's still a possibility of the game being related to the World's Greatest Detective in some way, especially with the studio having recently put together Batman: Arkham Knight's Batgirl: A Matter of Family DLC.
Due to the fact that both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad are releasing in theaters next year, there's potential for the studio to put out video game tie-ins for the two films, but if that's the case, then there's a very short window for developers to make quality titles from scratch. But, of course, since there's literally nothing more to go on than the notion that the ventures are set in the DC Comics universe, such an idea is merely conjecture at this point.
Discussions in the past have taken place of a Justice League game coming to fruition, of which Batman's voice actor Kevin Conroy has expressed interest, and should WB Games Montreal take a divergent route to build a title around the superhero collective, most fans would certainly be interested. After all, save for the Arkham series and Injustice: Gods Among Us, there haven't been too many high-caliber games set in the DC domain.
However, with the critical and financial success of Rocksteady Studios' Batman: Arkham Knight being the last release under the WB imprint connected to the DC universe, the odds of another game teasing out the Caped Crusader's story is more likely. In fact, Warner Bros. Interactive made a statement in September saying there's "endless possibilities" for the franchise, indicating more titles associated with the Dark Knight.
Whether or not WB Games Montreal will make yet another Batman game is anyone's guess. But, with the dearth of solid releases related to other great DC characters such as Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Green Lantern, it's high time for Warner Bros. to take a chance on other personalities in the comic book house's pantheon of heroes.
While awaiting further news from WB Games Montreal regarding the two new games set in the DC Comics realm, fans can currently enjoy Batman: Arkham Origins on PC, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Xbox 360.
