Rumors have been swirling for several weeks regarding Warner Bros. supposed multi-franchise fighting title. Tenatively called Multiversus, hype surrounding the rumored game has suddenly picked up steam with several Warner Bros. properties posting similarly themed images on their respective Twitter accounts.

Rumors of Multiversus' existence began in late October, when stories began circulating online about Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios creating a Super Smash Bros.-style fighting game featuring Warner Bros. properties like Tom & Jerry, Looney Tunes, Rick and Morty and more. More recent rumors assert that the game does indeed exist, but it isn't being developed by NetherRealm.

As previously mentioned, several Warner Bros.-owned franchises have posted tweets that all depict the same thing: their main characters are missing. Accounts from Tom & Jerry, Looney Tunes and others have posted still frames with their characters edited out, leaving obvious silhouettes in their wake. Each tweet asks where their protagonists have gone off to, and each tags WB Games at the end. While this not only essentially confirms that Multiversus is real, it also reveals several roster spots and indicates a full reveal is very likely in the near future.

While a few old-school cartoons will certainly be represented in the platform fighter, Multiversus is expected to span much, much wider. According to notable Super Smash Bros. player Hungrybox, who leaked a partial Multiversus roster screenshot, Multiversus will include characters like The Lord of the Rings' Gandalf, Finn and Jake from Adventure Time, and Shaggy from Scooby-Doo. A number of DC Comics characters are expected to be selectable fighters as well, including Batman, Harley Quinn, Superman, and Wonder Woman. The screenshot has since been taken via a copyright claim, indirectly confirming the image as real.

While Multiversus is certainly an exciting prospect, it isn't the only crossover platform fighter trying to emulate the success of Super Smash Bros. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl launched recently, featuring an expansive cast encompassing Nickelodeon's various eras. Some of the game's fighters include The Wild Thornberry's Nigel Thornberry, Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Helga Pataki from Hey Arnold! Although there are countless comparisons to each other, there are fundamental differences between Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and Super Smash Bros., and this will likely be the same case for Multiversus.

With the obviously coordinated marketing effort behind the Warner Bros. properties, its only a matter of time before gamers find out more about the franchise-blending platform fighter. In fact, there are already rumors of post-launch content for the game, with LeBron James believed to be DLC.

Multiversus is a rumored unannounced project from WB.
