As many fans will likely attest, WB Games Montreal is most well-known for its work on the mixed reviewed Arkham Origins, which is a prequel to Rocksteady Studios critically acclaimed Batman series. As it so happens, the former developer has been working on an undisclosed new game for the better part of a couple of years now, but a recent job listing at the company could point to it being a fresh open world title centered around the Dark Knight that has co-op mechanics and includes "games-as-a-service" elements.

According to the post, WB Games Montreal is seeking "an exceptionally talented User Researcher who is ready for the challenge of producing a AAA title on the next generation platforms". Applicants must have a "passion for videogames, with "knowledge of GaaS [games-as-a-service]" being a plus. While Batman – or any DC Comics character, for that matter – isn't explicitly stated in the listing, the prolific ResetEra poster known as Nirolak has suggested that the project focuses on the Caped Crusader and will have co-op.

Building on the User Researcher post, Nirolak asserts that the title in question now "seems to be an open world co-op Batman game" after the cancellation of a Suicide Squad project styled after Borderlands and the nixing of a Damian Wayne-starring release in the vein of Arkham Origins. The ResetEra user then goes on to remind fans of the job posting from several months ago indicating that WB Games Montreal was hiring for a DC Comics co-op game to be powered by Unreal Engine 4, lending further credence to the way in which the potential Batman game in development has evolved.

Taking everything into consideration, with plenty of puzzle pieces still missing, it's important to remain skeptical in regards to Nirolak's proposals and to what WB Games Montreal may have in the works until more concrete evidence is brought to light. After all, there's always the chance that the studio could eventually deliver the long-awaited Justice League title that fans have been craving. Of course, it's safe to say that most DC Comics fans wouldn't shirk the chance to don the cowl once more as the World's Greatest Detective.

A new Batman game has yet to be officially announced.
