E3 will be back after the event's first ever cancellation in 2020, but this time as an online platform. Running from the 12th – 15th, E3 2021 already has a lot of hopeful eyes focused on it. Since last year's cancellation due to the global pandemic, studios have adapted and announced game after game through their own formats. WB itself has revealed several highly anticipated titles coming out over the next two years. All of which could have made stellar appearance had last year’s E3 gone as planned.

With this year’s event likely to go off with minimal interruption due to the online format, there is a lot that fans can look forward to. Several games could use some updates on where they are at in production, while others might just need the press time. Considering what WB has on its current publishing calendar, there is a few titles that feel particularly likely to show up at E3 2021.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is slated to release in 2022. The Suicide Squad’s popularity has been on the rise in mainstream media for a few reasons over the past few years. The most recent live-action movie left something to be desired for many fans, but the team’s characters have all gotten love individually. With a new Suicide Squad movie trailer just announced and the continuing popularity of its mainstay team members like Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and King Shark, WB is likely to show of some of the advancements they have made in the game since its announcement this past August.

While the game is set in the same continuity as the Batman: Arkham series, it will be taking a different route than its predecessor. As a four-player action game, it looks like it will be a much different experience than what the Arkham series provided. While the main characters are anti-heroes at best. it is interesting to see the games big baddy as Superman, if likely under Brainiac’s mind control. So far, there hasn’t been a gameplay trailer released which turns E3 into the perfect opportunity to give fans a taste of what the game itself will be like, all depending on when it releases in 2022 of course. Still, a little something can be expected.

Gotham Knights

Gotham Knights 2021

Gotham Knights was also announced this past year at the DC Fandome. The gameplay compliments the status that Batman often holds with his proteges. The game has been confirmed to feature Red Hood, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Robin as playable characters in a somewhat grim future for Gotham City. Set after the death of Batman, the story will likely feel a lot different than what fans may be used to.

With alpha-build gameplay out alongside the game’s announcement trailer, it looks like a mix of some of the Bat Family’s classic and newer enemies will be the primary antagonists. The death of Batman does generate some suspicion, but the game’s inclusion of the Court of Owls and longtime villain Mr. Freeze add a layer of mystery to what the game's story will be. Players will likely be responsible for protecting Gotham and finding out which heavy hitters of the city’s underworld had a hand to play in the Dark Knight’s demise.

Hogwarts Legacy

Also slated for a 2022 release is WB’s upcoming Hogwarts Legacy. As part of the Portkey Games label, it likely will not influence any major lore pieces from the Harry Potter universe but will use it as a foundation. Many fans of the Harry Potter series have wanted a dedicated RPG from the franchise for a long time. Early Harry Potter games focused on the books and movies and LEGO Harry Potter games, while full of fun, still did not tell their own stories.

The game will put players in the 1800s as young wizards studying at the legendary Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Beyond the story being independent from the franchise’s main canon, there is still not much that has been announced. A solid appearance at E3 2021 could help build up some extra hype around the game and show off just how intricate its mechanics are. With a 2022 release, it's likely its appearance at E3 this year would only be a stepping-stone to later reveals and announcements.

Back 4 Blood

Turtle Rock recently announced that Back 4 Blood will be delayed until October 122021. The studio is known for its previous work on the Left 4 Dead series and Evolve, the former being in the same vein as Back 4 Blood. The game did have a planned release date for June 18 which would have it release only days after E3 2021 had wrapped up. With the new delayed release date, Back 4 Blood also had an Open Beta announced for this summer. E3 feels like a perfect time to announce when it officially starts and open it up to fans.

After last year’s gap year, E3 2021 has a lot of promise for WB and its working titles. The success of events like the DC Fandome have provided a strong foundation of content for WB to pull from. With the use of livestreams and virtual events, a more inclusive and accessible show could be provided to fans along with some information on games that the public does not know about yet.
