The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has shut down schools and businesses while entertainment productions have been cancelled or pushed to later dates, as is the case with Paramount Pictures' Mission Impossible 7 and 8. However a fantasy horror film called Warhunt, starring Mickey Rourke as an American soldier in World War II who encounters witches in Germany, just wrapped shooting amid the climate of social distancing.

Entertainment news site Variety published an exclusive story Sunday talking with Rourke, a former boxer known for his work in movies like 2008's The Wrestler, as well as producer You-Fai Suen. They were able to keep shooting thanks to guidelines from the Latvian government that required them to wear facemasks and gloves, have their temperature taken twice a day, and continually disinfect equipment.

Suen told Variety the crew also had to rearrange Rourke's shooting schedule to finish scenes for the movie before Latvia's borders were closed, and all the actors had separate makeup kits. Director Mauro Borrelli said the experience was "surreal," but the crew wound up even more focused once adjusted to the precautions.

While the story of Warhunt is uniquely its own, the ongoing pandemic has also led to movies like Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker seeing early digital releases.
