The original Warhammer: The End Times - Vermintide was something of a sleeper hit, with fans of the Warhammer tabletop game happy to take part in an action-focused cooperative experience. The game has gathered itself enough fans to warrant a sequel, and developer Fatshark Games has just released a gameplay reveal trailer for Warhammer: Vermintide 2.

This sequel certainly seems to offer more of the same, with fast-paced co-op gameplay and some frantic Left 4 Dead-esque action. For Warhammer: Vermintide 2, though, there's one addition that is bound to bring both excitement and dread for players - the introduction of the Warriors of Chaos rather than just the Skaven horde, courtesy of a Dark Pact.

Chaos has always proved to be among the most fearsome of enemies within the Warhammer universes, whether in the fantasy original or in the far future of Warhammer 40,000, and no doubt taking on Khorne et al up close and personal will prove to be an enticing prospect for Vermintide 2 players. Those interested in seeing the full trailer can do so below.

Many would-be players will no doubt be interested to see how much support will be given to Vermintide 2. After all, the original game actually ended up with a virtual reality level in the end, so those who already own a VR headset will be eager to find out if they'll be able to use it with the game. With the title due to release in the first quarter of 2018, no doubt more will be revealed soon. For now, though, users will have 5 heroes up for grabs, and PC players can rest easy knowing that mod support will be available

The Warhammer franchise has had something of a resurgence when it comes to video game adaptations, with a number of well-received titles releasing in the last few years. In particular, the world of strategy games has proved to be a fantastic place for Warhammer to flourish, as seen with Total War: Warhammer, but it's always good to see a more direct action game such as Vermintide 2 on the cards.

Whether the game lives up to the success of the first, however, only time will tell. But with launch only just around the corner in early 2018, fans will be hoping that it's another strong entry in the series.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 releases in the first quarter of 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
