A Warhammer 40K fan recently discovered something interesting about one of the Genestealer Cultist figurines. Examining the model reveals that the Genestealer Cult Nexos appears to be looking at a map of a real-world location that many Warhammer 40K fans will be familiar with.
Games Workshop launched the tabletop wargame Warhammer 40K in 1987. An over-the-top sci-fi spinoff of the preexisting Warhammer Fantasy Battle, 40K eventually proved far more popular and ultimately outlived its predecessor. Warhammer 40K has gone through numerous updates, changes, and retcons over the years as Games Workshop continues to release new models and sourcebooks. This includes Warhammer 40K factions like the Tyranid Genestealer Cults, whose most recent update came with the release of a new expansion book last year.
Reddit user and Warhammer 40K fan NewEnglandHeresy noticed something when examining the Genestealer Cult Nexos figurine. The Nexos is an alien-human hybrid who serves as a general in the armies of Genestealer Cults. The current model for the Nexos thus depicts him standing over a holographic map with a radio in hand as he oversees a military operation. However, as NewEnglandHeresy pointed out, the hologram the Nexos is looking at seems to be a map of Warhammer World, a Warhammer store and exhibition center at the Games Workshop headquarters in Nottingham, England.
Genestealers are one the more nefarious threats to humanity in the Warhammer 40K universe. A subset of the ravenous Tyranid hive mind, Genestealers infiltrate human planets, indoctrinating some of the locals into a Genestealer Cult. The Genestealers then breed with humans to create hybrids. Meanwhile, indoctrinated humans and human-passing hybrids infiltrate the local population, government, and military. Finally, when the Tyranid fleet draws near, The Genestealer Cult launches an uprising to cripple, or at least distract, the Imperial garrison. The hive then consumes all the planet's biomass, including the brainwashed cultists.
As other Warhammer 40K fans pointed out in the comments, the Genestealer Cult Nexos model features a very impressively detailed map of Warhammer World. Players can even see the bridge that connects the exhibition hall and museum building to Games Workshop's company headquarters. The map also marks the location of the life-sized recreation of a 40K Rhino APC parked outside the building, which the model represents as one of two red blips on the map.
Meanwhile, the arrows representing the Genestealer advance points toward Warhammer World's guest parking and Bugman's Bar. The latter is Warhammer World's restaurant and bar, which offers a variety of food and drinks named after things and characters from Warhammer and 40K. Apparently, Warhammer 40k's hideous human-Tyranid hybrids still fancy a burger and a pint.
