There aren't many games that have transitioned from being a tabletop game to a full-blown video game franchise. Luckily, Warhammer is one of those games that has continuously evolved itself into the virtual world, ever since its launch in 1983. The original Warhammer is a miniature wargame that involves tactics and strategy.

Staying true to that, most of the virtual versions of the game are also about strategy and real-time tactics. When it comes to Warhammer video games, there are two different main series, one is called the Warhammer 40,000, and the other one is Warhammer Fantasy. Let us list out the top games in the latter.

10 Warhammer Quest 2 (71)

Warhammer Quest 2: The End Times is a turn-based strategy game released in 2017 for iOS and other platforms. The game is very well received for a mobile game as it stays true to the vision or original Warhammer Quest. The End Times is a sequel to the game from 2013, which was received good enough on the iOS, while pretty average on the PC and consoles. This game adds onto the old one, and the fans of the board game will enjoy it and have a blast.

9 Mordheim: City Of The Damned (72)

Mordheim: City of the Damned is a 2015 game that takes place in the decimated empire city. It is a strategy game with elements of turn-based tactics. As the game belongs to the strategy genre, its PC version is rated high compared to the console one. The main difference would be the ease of controls on a PC. Many fans have considered it to be better than XCOM 2, which signifies that this game holds up to the name of Warhammer. This game also stays true to the tabletop experience.

8 Warhammer: Mark Of Chaos (73)

Warhammer: Mark of Chaos is a real-time tactic and strategy game released in 2006. The game is available on Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 and has been published by Namco Bandai Games. Fans well-received this game for its single-player as well as multiplayer features. This game has a significant focus on battles compared to many other titles. The developers have significantly reduced other aspects like management and resource supervision. Warhammer: Mark of Chaos may not be the best Warhammer game on the list, but it is undoubtedly a unique title on its own.

7 Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide (73)

The PC version is the best one to play, as it has received 9/10 on steam. The reason is that the nature of this genre is best experienced on a platform with a control system like a keyboard and mouse. The decent reception of this game has already spawned a sequel.

6 Warhammer: Chaosbane (73)

Warhammer Chaosbane

Uniquely enough, Warhammer: Chaosbane is best rated on the Xbox One compared to the PC and PS4. This one is not the usual strategy and real-time tactics title. Instead, it is an action RPG with elements of hack and slash. The game was released in 2019 on all major platforms to a decent reception. This game is considered as a Diablo clone by one of the critics on Metacritic, but at the same time, it is praised for bringing a new flavor and some original elements to the series.

5 Blood Bowl 2 (76)

Released in September 2015, Blood Bowl 2 is a sport-oriented fantasy game that is turn-based. It is a sequel to the original Blood Bowl, which was averagely received by fans across the world. Blood Bowl 2 is a different take on the usual Warhammer games. It is unique compared to the other games on the list. But on top, it is also very different from many other games in the genre. This game is certainly something to be experienced by all Warhammer fans.

4 Warhammer: Vermintide 2 (83)

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is the sequel to the Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide. It is an action game built by independent developer Fatshark and has shaped up into something much better this time.

The game is more substantial this time around, with updates and improvements in almost all the main areas. Most of the complaints from before are now gone, as this is a solid sequel worthy of the name. All of this is evident as the score of this game is a lot more than the previous release.

3 Total War: WARHAMMER (86)

Total War: WARHAMMER is a turn-based strategy and real-time tactics title. This is the flagship cross over everyone has always asked for, as it focuses on gameplay that is much closer to Total War Series but with the world and universe of Warhammer. The best part of this game is that it contains both single-player and multiplayer elements making it probably the biggest game in the Warhammer Fantasy series. The user reviews of the game are a bit underwhelming compared to the critic reviews, but the sequel fixes that.

2 Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning (86)

Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games are probably the most difficult ones to build and optimize as a lot more things are involved in creating the perfect experience. Gladly, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning does most of the things right, which is why it is the second-highest game on the list. The game offers a seamless gameplay adventure, and a lot of players like this game for its ease of play. One of the critics has called this game the smoothest MMO launch, and that is very much visible from the positive response by fans.

1 Total War: WARHAMMER II (87)

Large battle gameplay

Total War: WARHAMMER 2 is the sequel to the original WARHAMMER, and it enhances it. The game stays true to its genre and adds and improves everything else on the plate. The game is much bigger than before, looks better, and plays better. Many players have liked the Sandbox gameplay of this title, as well as the fact that developers have continually added new content to the game. At the same time, the critics have called it innovative and original. Or quite simply, a worthy sequel.
