Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is rumored to have a gameplay reveal happening at The Game Awards 2022. Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is a direct sequel to Saber Interactive's Warhammer 40K: Space Marine.

Saber Interactive released Warhammer 40K: Space Marine in 2011, which is set in Games Workshop's grimdark science fiction Warhammer 40K universe. The single-player game sets players as Captain Titus of the Ultramarines, a chapter of genetically engineered superhumans tasked with defending humanity from an ever-encroaching horde of alien conquerors. The sequel was announced at The Game Awards 2021, surprising fans who hadn't expected a Warhammer 40K: Space Marine sequel.

Rumors from Insider Gaming speculate that a gameplay debut for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 will be unveiled at The Game Awards 2022 on December 8. Players will be able to continue the story from the first game, with players taking the role of Captain Titus and fighting against a swarm of ravenous alien creatures called Tyranids. The sequel was announced in 2021, but there was very little gameplay footage revealed along with it. If a previous Space Marine 2 behind-the-scenes video is any indicator, Warhammer 40K fans will be treated to some very engaging gameplay footage.

With the original announcement for Space Marine 2 coming out at The Game Awards 2021, it's very fitting that a gameplay reveal would be shown at The Game Awards 2022. It's a big event in the gaming industry and given Warhammer 40K's dedicated fanbase, the reveal is sure to draw a lot of attention and get fans of the 40K franchise and of the original Space Marine game newly interested in the release of Space Marine 2. This reveal could also reassure fans that Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 can live up to the unique qualities of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine.

Warhammer 40K is one of the most popular tabletop miniature wargame franchises, and there have been plenty of video games set in the 40K universe. While many have not been fan favorites, there have been a few standouts delivered, such as RTS Dawn of War, turn-based tactics Mechanicus, and, of course, Space Marine. With the positive reception of the original, releasing Space Marine 2 seems to make sense. Additionally, the recent release of Warhammer 40K: Darktide has probably created an increased interest in 40K video games, which Saber Interactive can take advantage of.

Of course, some 40K fans might not be as interested in another hack-and-slash game set in the 41st Millenium, given the turn-based strategy roots of the franchise. However, there seems to be enough of a market to make Space Marine 2 worth it, and it seems that a lot of fans will be excited to see gameplay footage if this rumor proves to be true.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
