Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is, as the title suggests, a sequel to the original Warhammer 40K: Space Marine game. Like the original, it will feature a third-person perspective, plenty of hacking and slashing, and Warhammer 40K's Ultramarine Captain Titus as its protagonist. Space Marine 2 was first unveiled at the Game Awards in 2021, surprising many fans who had assumed for a while that the older Space Marine would not be getting a sequel.

In the initial Space Marine 2 reveal, fans got a look at Titus once again as he and his Space Marine companions stepped into combat against a Xenos threat. Rather than facing Greenskins like in Space Marine, it seems the antagonists of Space Marine 2 will be Tyranids, as shown both in the initial trailer and in a new behind-the-scenes video posted on Focus Entertainment's YouTube channel. The video begins by showing off some tabletop Space Marine models. Strangely, these Space Marines are not fighting Tyranids in the footage shown, but instead are battling against daemons of Khorne, perhaps indicating that Chaos could once again prove to be the main antagonist of a Space Marine title.

Moving on from the tabletop shots, Tim Willits of Saber Interactive speaks shortly about the challenges of producing a Warhammer product, stating that it is both scary and exciting to make an adaptation for a franchise that already has millions of fans. Then, Creative Director Oliver Hollis-Leick talks about Space Marine 2, saying that the team didn't just want to "make any third-person shooter" and wanted to "embody the galactic warfare" heavily associated with a Warhammer 40K product.

There are some shots of the improved graphics of Space Marine 2 compared to its predecessor, showing off some new levels and concepts that many Warhammer fans will likely see as impressive. Then, Clive Standen, the new actor for Titus, revealed some of the challenges on playing a Space Marine. Fans may already be familiar with Standen for his work on the Vikings TV show, and now he is replacing Mark Strong to suit up as an Ultramarine. "I'm playing... what amounts to a super galactic space warrior," Standen said. "They're about two-and-a-half meters tall; they're probably about 500 pounds before you even put the armor on top of them."

He then goes on to say that he wondered how the team would recreate those elements before simply stating that "suddenly I am two-and-a-half meters tall, and it's pretty amazing." Unfortunately, there weren't too many new features to look at in the Space Marine 2 footage, but there is still time for fans to see more of the upcoming game while the Warhammer Skulls event continues.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
