In the grim future of the 41st Millennium, Warhammer 40K Inquisitor Martyr tasks players with the role of an Inquisitor. As a secret agent of the Imperium of Mankind, they explore a ghost battleship that has seemingly appeared out of nowhere in the Caligari Sector. Players take the role of one of five Inquisitor agents as they battle hordes of mutants and the forces of Chaos before they threaten the Imperium.

Like most other ARPGs, Warhammer 40k Inquisitor Martyr gives players access to various Classes of different playstyles. Players can become the battle-hardened Crusader, the stealthy Assassin, the psionic Psyker, technologically-attuned Tech-Priest, or the divinely-inspired Sororitas. Which among these Classes is the best in Warhammer 40k Inquisitor Martyr?

Psyker

Psyker

The Psyker, or the Primaris Psyker, gathers powers from the Warp to aid the Imperium in their fight against Chaos. Although disdained for their mutated nature, their ability to channel otherworldly powers through the Warp makes the Psyker an undeniable asset to the Imperium. In the game, Psykers form the equivalent of a magic-user role. They can repel Daemons and eliminate foes from a distance through devastating spells, much like the Primarchs of WH40K.

Playstyle: Magical Flexibility

Psyker Character Screen

As the magic-user archetype, the Psyker relies on their capabilities of mixing and matching spells. They can debilitate enemy forces through debuffs and bolster their own ranks through enhancements. In addition to a wide variety of Psychic Powers, the Psyker can use Force Weapons to amplify their abilities. Their forbidden spells accumulate Warp Heat, which can call forth phenomena such as Daemons and other Warp anomalies. Compared to the other Classes, the Psyker boasts the flashiest moves and the most creative uses of their abilities. However, their high skill ceiling can make them difficult to use.

Expertise: Better Performance, Better Adaptability

Psyker Character Screen-1

As with other Classes in the Warhammer 40K game, the Psyker can tap into various Expertises depending on their preferred growth. In Inquisitor Martyr, the Psyker has access to three specializations, each of which allows them to use their psychic abilities in conjunction with an enhanced role in combat.

  • Empyreanist: Through the Force Staff, the Psyker can better tap into the Warp to devastate enemy forces. The Empyrean Armor gives them access to the Rosarius Force Field, improving the Psyker’s defenses against Warp Heat. Even then, they can access Mind Rift, which enhances their overall damage if they reach Imperiled Warp Heat states. This all incentivizes a more dangerous approach to combat.
  • Aetherwalker: Wielding the Force Sword and Force Rod, the Aetherwalker allows the Psyker to take their psychic prowess to the frontlines. Their Personal Void Shield generator enhances their defenses when engaging the forces of Chaos in combat, while Anointment boosts damage depending on the Psychic Power buffs active at the time.
  • Scryer: Donning the Bolt Pistol and the Force Rod, the Scryer’s duty is determining the positions of enemies through their relative connections to the Warp. Scriers come with the Warpbound Armour, allowing them to be virtually undetectable when spotting foes. Not to mention, Blood Driven gives the Scryer additional Movement Speed that refreshes on kill, providing them with more versatility to tour the battlefield.

Tech-Adept

Tech Adept

The Tech-Adept primarily serves the Machine God. As a member of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Tech-Adept is entrusted with the deepest technological secrets and rituals of the Imperium, and they’re tasked with using these secrets to decimate the forces of Chaos. The Tech-Adept is the equivalent of a summoner, calling forth various technological advancements to their aid.

Playstyle: Summoning Specialties

Tech Adept Character Sheet

As the Imperium’s go-to technological experts, the Tech-Adept summons machines to aid them in almost every situation. They rely heavily on Data-Flux points to summon constructs in battle such as Robots, Combat Servitors, and Gun Turrets. On their own, they rely on Arcane Tech Equipment such as modified Axes and Carbines, and are the only ones capable of commanding their Psiloi Constructs. Tech-Adepts are a relatively good balance between the complexity of the Psyker and the combat options of the Assassin.

Expertise: A Tool For Every Occasion

Tech Adept Subclasses

The Tech-Adept's Expertises make full use of their summons. These Expertises are tailored to using the Tech-Adept’s constructs in various ways, giving players a lot of room to specialize in offense, defense, or sheer utility, depending on their convenience.

  • Adept Secutor: Equipped with the Omnissian Axe, the Adept Secutor is dedicated to defend the frontlines with their Psiloi Constructs. This is courtesy of the Electroid Shielding Armor, which is designed to use Mind Impulse Sync. This ability diverts harm towards the Adept Secutor into the constructs currently summoned.
  • Adept Dominus: Armed with the Arc Rifle, the Adept Dominus dishes out damage from afar while their constructs take the brunt of the assault. This combat ability is further enhanced with the Technomartyr Vestment Armor, which improves the control the Tech-Adept has over their constructs. Thanks to the Parasitic Bio-Link, damage taken by constructs is transferred to the Tech-Adept for health.
  • Adeptus Skitarius: A riskier Expertise, the Adeptus Skitarius is armed with the Radium Carbine, whose explosive rounds are dangerous for both its target and the wielder. Combat potential is enhanced further through the Necromechanic Raiment Armor, designed to boost the combat performance of summoned constructs. Thanks to Noospheric Targeting, both the Adept and their summoned constructs get bonus ranged damage provided there aren’t any targets within a particular range.

Assassin

Assassin

As part of the Imperial Death Cults, the Assassin is tasked with eliminating all sorts of enemies, from politicians to generals, regardless of the environment. In Inquisitor Martyr, the Assassin is equipped with a multitude of weapons. As such, the Assassin is fit for both melee and ranged roles, depending on the player’s preference. Her nimble movement further encourages versatility in play.

Playstyle: Movement And Versatility

Assassin Character Sheet

Heavily reliant on stealth and subterfuge, the Assassin sees no use for the added defenses (and weight) of heavier armor. In turn, Assassins rely less on Power Armor and instead have an arsenal of exotic weaponry tailored to eliminate the Emperor’s foes. Sniper Rifles and Power Swords are the norm for the Assassin, and they integrate these weapons seamlessly with their combat styles. They can also Dodge in combat regardless of the armor they’re wearing, and rely on the Adrenaline Resource that they gain when they wound or kill foes. The Assassin is one of the most flexible Classes, perfect for players who want to explore the depth of Inquisitor Martyr gameplay without the unnecessary Warp risk tied to the Psyker.

Expertise: Overwhelm Without Resistance

Assassin Subclasses

Trained to kill without remorse, the Assassin can further specialize into Expertises catered to killing styles of their choosing. The Assassin has the choice of playing around the battlefield with deadly swords or eliminating their foe from afar with deadly marksmanship. Regardless of the choice, the Assassin’s Expertise is almost always tied to their hit-and-run nature, giving players many options of sabotaging the enemy’s overall strength.

  • Infiltrator: Armed with either a pair of Death Cult Blades or a two-handed Power Sword, the Infiltrator relies on close-quarters combat. With her Stealth Bodysuit giving her Virtual Invisibility, she can either slash her enemies with Surprise Attacks or prepare Remote Mines for ambush. Either way, Surprise Kills can activate Evasive Ambush that further boosts the Infiltrator’s Dodge, giving them more incentive to dance around the battlefield.
  • Sniper: Donning the Sniper Rifle and the Autopistol, the Sniper is a master of long-ranged combat. Thanks to her Hololithic Armour, the Sniper can release Holographic Projections that confuse opponents about her position. If she has to move, Run And Gun ensures her Ranged Damage is increased as soon as she stops running. Not only that, she has Stun Mines to stop enemies from chasing her.
  • Eradicator: While the Eradicator also uses a Sniper Rifle, the addition of the Shotgun transforms her into a juggernaut. Wearing the Fabricator Distortion Armor allows the Eradicator to travel at immense speeds, with the Refractor Field Generator giving them a boost in defense. Thanks to Deadshot, attacking from a Surprise state gives the Eradicator a huge damage bonus.

Sororitas

Sororitas

Before becoming a true Inquisitor, the agent has first become a Sororitas, a member of the Adepta Sororitas sisterhood whose lives are devoted to eternal servitude of the Emperor. Unlike other Imperial agents, the Sororitas aren’t just worshippers. They specialize in armed combat not dissimilar from their more powerful Space Marine counterparts. Showing no remorse against the Emperor’s enemies, the Sororitas is armed with both holy and conventional weaponry that affords them a lot of flexibility in exchange for weaker defenses.

Playstyle: Divine And Dangerous

Sororitas Equipment Screen

The armored nature of the Sororitas makes them more suitable for frontal assaults compared to the stealthier Assassins and the more fragile Tech-Adepts. What they lack in defenses, however, they do compensate with their natural connection with the Emperor. The Adepta Sororitas have access to Faith, a resource they obtain through Sacred Rites selected for missions. With enough Faith, the Sororitas can activate Acts of Faith that result in various supernatural effects, which manipulate the battlefield to their favor. With enough prowess, a Sororitas can transform into an Embodied Saint with special abilities, allowing her to purge entire areas of Chaos threats.

The Sororitas is a middle ground between specialized play and safe experimentation. While not as repetitive as the bulkier Crusader, the Sororitas still enjoys the relative safety of armor. Their damage numbers won’t be as high as the Assassin, and their relative complexity is similar to the micromanagement needed for the Psyker. This makes the Adeptas Sororitas a decent middle ground as players find a more comfortable way of playing the other Classes.

Expertise: The Emperor ProtectsSororitas Subclasses

As with other Classes, the Sororitas has a wide range of Expertises that take advantage of their connection with the Emperor. While not as tanky as the Crusader, the multifaceted nature of the Sororitas’s arsenal allows them to become tankier versions of the more fragile Assassins, giving them more room to get into the heat of combat without much risk.

  • Sister Dominion: Armed with the lighter version of the Space Marine’s Boltgun, the Sister Dominion focuses on debilitating enemy forces through ranged attacks. Their Dominion Armor is enhanced with high-speed plug ports and servos, allowing the Sister to perform quick bursts of speed, repositioning around the battlefield with ease.
  • Sister Celestian: Equipped with the Hand Flamer and Brazier, the Sister Celestian purges the Emperor’s enemies with holy fire. Their Celestian Armor is a lighter version of their default Power Armor adorned with holy Imperial paraphernalia, but allows the Sister to empower their Acts of Faith with better boosts.
  • Sister Seraphim: Donning the Bolt Pistol and the Chainsword, the Sister Seraphim is the embodiment of the Sister of Battle. Combined with the Seraphim Armor, the Sister Seraphim is equipped for multipurpose combat, especially with the Jump Pack that further encourages players to get into the heat of battle.

Crusader

Crusader

Before becoming the Inquisitor, the player must first become a Crusader, one of the holiest warriors among the Adeptus Ministorum. Crusaders show their devotion to the Emperor through their contribution in the frontlines, reflecting their loyalty to the Imperium as executioners and honor guards. In Inquisitor, the Crusader serves as the bulkiest of the agents, capable of besting the most fearsome foes up close.

Playstyle: Total Domination

Crusader Character Screen

Serving as the tank archetype, the Crusader relies on their durability and natural defenses to outlast foes. They tear through enemy mobs easily, courtesy of their Power Armor, affinity with heavy Melee Weapons, and proper use of their Focus Resource.

Given the strength of the Crusader’s Power Armor, newcomers to Inquisitor Martyr are able to withstand most enemy blows and take their time adjusting to fierce situations without putting themselves at risk. While specialists up close, Crusaders still have the option to wield heavy artillery to enjoy the relative safety of distance. Compared to the other Classes, the Crusader is a safe choice for anyone who wants to explore the game before going wild with theorycrafting.

Expertise: Defense Is Priority

Crusader Subclasses

Compared to other Classes, whose Expertises heavily split their combat style, the Crusader’s specializations still reflect a key aspect of their gameplay: defense. Regardless of the chosen Expertise, Crusaders are expected to capitalize on their natural protections to bypass most enemy threats.

  • Assault: Donning the Power Sword, Greatsword, and Suppression Shield, these Crusaders dominate melee combat through brute force. Thanks to the new Jump Pack, players can make long jumps across the battlefield to meet threats head-on.
  • Tactical: Using the Laspistol and Autogun, these Crusaders provide support to their companions through mid-to-long-range firearms, particularly Tarantula Turrets and Stun Mines. Tactical Crusaders can also teleport across the battlefield through Teleport Beacons, and improve combat performance through the Tactical Cogitator.
  • Heavy Gunner: Equipped with the Shotgun and Lasgun, these Crusaders get up close and personal when blasting through forces of Chaos. The Heavy Gunner comes equipped with devastating weapons of mass destruction, such as the scattering Frag Grenade and the Missile Launcher System, both of which rain hell down on opponents.

Warhammer 40K Inquisitor Martyr is available on the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
