Classic turn-based strategy game Warhammer 40,000: Rites of War is being given away for free by GOG this weekend. Good Old Games, or GOG, is the PC game store owned by CD Projekt, the parent company of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 developer, CD Projekt RED.

In what seems to be a weekly or monthly occurrence for the digital games store, GOG is once again giving gamers a freebie. From now until July 19 at 6 AM PT, 9 AM ET, gamers can go ahead and grab Warhammer 40,000: Rites of War for free. The PC game, first released in 1999, features 24 story missions, a variety of victory conditions, Tyrannid and Imperial armies to control each with eight troop classes to choose, and units can be upgraded and customized. Players could get a good few hours out of this, making it a free and entertaining way to spend the COVID-19 lockdown.

While Steam is the biggest PC game store, GOG is hugely popular because of its free games, support for classic titles, and its fairly consumer-friendly policies. Policies such as its gamers-first refund policy, which gives gamers up to 30 days to get a refund for a game, have really helped. Its games also come with no DRM, which can force players to play single-player titles online and some DRM software has been linked to a game's poor performance.

However, GOG is far from the only company PC players should be looking at if they want a freebie. The Epic Games Store gives out free PC games every week, with high-profile titles such as Grand Theft Auto V and Watch Dogs having been part of it.
