In Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, players take on the role of mercenaries called rejects. They’re sent on all manner of perilous missions with little odds of survival. To complete some missions in Darktide, players are tasked with deploying a Data Interrogator. The Data Interrogator itself is a human skull fitted with clunky cybernetic implants. It haphazardly attaches itself to a console to collect data.

Occasionally, it needs a bit of help and that’s when the rejects step in. Rebooting the Data Interrogator involves using the Auspex to input some commands. It requires precise timing, which can be punishing for players having trouble keeping up with Darktide’s intimidating system requirements.

How to Use the Data Interrogator

Player getting hit while trying to reboot the data interrogator

The Data Interrogator is needed in missions when the Imperium needs specific intel that can’t be beaten out of something or someone. It forces its way into a data terminal and proceeds to extract all the relevant data it needs. The rejects are little more than couriers for the data, and whether they survive the ordeal or not is secondary so long as the Imperium gets the data they’re after. The rejects are simply ordered to place the device and reboot it from time to time as needed. Otherwise, their only responsibility is to protect the device and get it where it needs to go when it’s done. Follow these steps to satisfy the Imperium's expectations:

  1. Place the Data Interrogator on the indicated console when instructed to do so.
  2. Hold off against waves of bloodthirsty heretics.
  3. Eventually, the Data Interrogator will need to be rebooted. This will occur once or twice per encounter at the lowest difficulty and increasingly often at higher levels of difficulty.
  4. To reboot the system, interact with the Data Interrogator. This will bring up the Auspex with rows of symbols on its screen. One symbol in the topmost row will be highlighted with a yellow box, and a square cursor will slide from side to side. The player must hit when the cursor slides over the indicated symbol. This is done with a Left Click or Right Trigger.
  5. After the first hit, a symbol on the second row will be indicated, and the cursor will move to follow it. Players must continue hitting each indicated symbol to move to the next row. If the player misses a symbol, they’ll have to start from the beginning.
  6. If the player successfully hits every indicated symbol, the Data Interrogator will reboot and continue extracting data. Completing this without mistake earns the player the Flawless Interrogator Penance and Achievement.
    Earning the flawless interrogator achievement

Only one player at a time may attempt to reboot the Data Interrogator. Thus, the rest of the players are better off defending them with the myriad of weapons at their disposal. Damage received won’t interrupt the player, but it is quite distracting. Work together as a team and rebooting the Data Interrogator will be a quick and easy task.
