Warframe developer Digital Extremes brought both bad and good news for fans of its long-running space ninja simulator this week. The Canadian studio won't be hosting its annual TennoCon fan expo in its hometown of London, Ontario this year due to concerns over COVID-19, marking the event's first cancellation since its inception in 2016. However, fans will still be able to catch up with Digital Extremes' big summer reveals for Warframe with a digital show scheduled for the same day, Saturday, July 11.

More positively for the future of Warframe itself, Digital Extremes also used its latest Twitch livestream to show off some of the upcoming content set to arrive with the next major update, titled Operation Scarlet Spear. Two new mission types will be available for Tenno in the update, which pits players against a Sentient uprising on Earth.

Ground Assaults will pose a challenging threat to players looking to take the fight right to the battlefield, while Murex Raids are set aboard players' Railjack spaceships. Both excursions are endless missions set up in a similar fashion to Warframe's Survival mode; the longer Tenno are able to hold their own against a continuous stream of enemies, the better the rewards.

For the Tenno with discerning taste, Digital Extremes also showed off the latest Prime variant for the fairy-like Warframe Titania. The typical Prime benefits of additional mod polarities and armor customization options are all present and accounted for, but Titania Prime will also have unique animations and visual splendor while using her Razorwing ability. Titania Prime comes with a pair of weapons: the Corinth Prime shotgun and the Pangolin Prime sword, and she'll be the next Prime Warframe in the game's market on console and PC, succeeding Ivara Prime.

Players looking to jump into the Operation Scarlet Spear content still have a little bit of a wait, as Digital Extremes has only said that the update will come to the game "Soon(TM)." For right now, though, Warframe is celebrating seven years online with its annual anniversary rewards. This year's offerings include weekly weapon reward missions throughout March, and the Dex Raksasa armor for Excalibur, which players can get just for signing into the game.

This year's TennoCon won't be happening in the traditional expo format, but Digital Extremes' long-running third-person shooter still has plenty of offerings for fans to be excited about in the coming months. The free-to-play game's proven to be one of the biggest Cinderella stories of the current generation, and it's only gotten better with age.

Warframe is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.
