With April Fool's Day following closely after Bungie's big Destiny 2 reveal earlier this week, the moderators of the Warframe subreddit figured the conditions were perfect to poke fun at the constant comparisons fans make between Digital Extremes' free-to-play third-person shooter and Bungie's action-RPG by changing the former title's forum to look like Destiny's. So, for any gamer who decided to visit both of the pages today and thought they were taking crazy pills, they should be pleased to know they aren't in fact completely losing their minds, as the change-up is just a temporary gag.
As seen below in the screenshot from the Redditor known as ShadowGhost2x, while Warframe is the primary point of discussion in all of the forum's posts, the entire theme of the subreddit is practically identical to that of Destiny's. Should gamers visit the Warframe subreddit now, however, the page's design and its posts have devolved into sheer lunacy, as users are spamming the page with references to loads of other titles like Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Overwatch, while the banner image at the top contains a looping wave of a Club Penguin character holding a Gjallarhorn rocket launcher–the latter of which once occurred on the Destiny subreddit way back when as an inside joke among subscribers.
With this being the case, some gamers may be pondering why Destiny's subreddit didn't pull a switcheroo itself to have the page resemble Warframe's to bring the joke full circle. As it happens, MisterWoodhouse explained that the moderators were completely okay with being fuddy-duddies as they are "not huge on April Fool's Day."
All things considered, it's nice to see that both Destiny and Warframe's online communities are able to take a joke in stride and simply have a laugh at themselves without degenerating into an argument about whether or not one game is a ripoff of the other and vice versa. Bearing this in mind, one can only hope that the Digimon GO and Pokemon GO fan bases can take a minute to patch things up and appreciate one another.
Warframe is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, while Destiny 2 is set to release on September 8, 2017 for the same aforementioned platforms.
