The Plains Of Eidolon update in Warframe brought a number of new items that can be crafted to the game. Many of these items have Fish Oil as a requisite crafting material. Unfortunately, Fish Oil is not an item that can be purchased or found in large quantities on its own.

Players will have to catch fish and clean them to extract the Fish Oil needed for crafting. There are a few different areas to fish in the Plains of Eidolon. This guide will cover where and how to fish in order to collect Fish Oil as efficiently as possible.

Preparing To Fish

Hai-Luk Warframe

Gamers will need some standing in the Ostron faction before they are able to purchase the requisite items to fish. A quick way to get enough reputation is to complete Plains of Eidolon bounties. After a few bounties have been completed, Tenno will need to find the fishing trader in the market, who is named Fisher Hai-Luk. The merchant will have huge fish hanging all around the shop, so it will be hard to miss.

Players will need to purchase a fishing spear and bait before they travel to one of the lakes in the Plains. The higher standing spears and baits increase the chances of getting rarer and larger fish. These items will require a ton of standing, so for most people the 2,000 standing spear will do the trick. Obviously, gamers that have the standing should opt for the higher level options to get larger fish, which will yield more Fish Oil.

Where To Fish

Fishing Pond Warframe

There are too many lakes and ponds in the open world Plains of Eidolon to count. Essentially every body of water in the Plains will have the chance to spawn a fish. Some species of fish will even spawn in what looks like a puddle. It is generally a good idea to try fishing in areas with multiple bodies of water, that way people can cycle through multiple spawns periodically. The most populous ponds are not too shallow or too deep, but somewhere in-between. Once gamers have spotted a good location and equipped their spear, it is time to go fishing.

Fishing Basics

One initial tip that may help some players is lowering the field of view while fishing. The zoom will help people spot fish swimming in the water below. This is especially true at night, as the moon reflects light off of the surface of the water. Next, players will want to place the bait and keep and eye out for fish in the vicinity. Because fish meat is an ingredient in the lower standing baits, players will need to catch a couple of fish with just a spear initially. Once a fish has wandered close enough, gamers need to aim the spear and throw it to catch the fish. Those that are looking for larger fish will usually have more success in bigger lakes and ponds. Likewise, many in the community believe that more fish spawn during nighttime.

Species And Size

The amount of Fish Oil harvested from each catch will depend on the species of the fish and whether it is small, medium, or large. The weight of the fish is irrelevant for the purpose of farming Fish Oil. Every large fish will yield at least 3 fish oil. The most efficient catches are the Mortus Lungfish, Karkina, and Mukray, all of which will produce up to 8 Fish oil. Small Mukray will yield a total of seven Fish Oil. The Mukray are found in the bay to the southwest of the Hillside Ruin. As long as the character has Mukray bait and a spear, the fish can be caught there. Placing the bait near a hotspot is key when trying to catch Mukray.

Extracting The Fish Oil

Warframe Mukray

After spending the day (or night) fishing in the Plains, people should have at least a few fish to harvest. Gamers should return to the merchant, who will cut the bait for them. In the menu, players should select the fish they caught and choose the cut bait option. Fisher Hai-Luk will fillet the catch, which will produce Fish Oil and other materials. There is also an option to provide the entire fish, which will reward players with standing points. Hai-Luk will have a daily allotment of over 10,000, making this a viable way to boost standing relatively quickly.

On average, spending about half an hour will yield around 150 Fish Oil. An hour or two out fishing is enough time to collect the requisite Fish Oil for the Archwing, a system used by Tenno to engage in combat. Another bonus item Tenno can utilize is fish meat from the fillet. The meat can be combined with other materials to craft the baits that will make fishing much easier. Anyone that has a spear, bait, and follows the methods in this guide will have no trouble collecting all of the Fish Oil they need in Warframe.
