Warframe is riding high. Not only did the developers release a brand new expansion, but the game also recently broke its records for Tennocon attendees and concurrent players online.

Warframe's latest expansion, The New War, continues the game's main quest storyline, pitting all of Warframe's factions together against the sentient army. As expected, this big update also presents players with a new warframe: the sentient-hybrid Caliban.

Getting Caliban is already an involved process, with multiple steps. There is one specific step, however, that is a bit more confusing than the rest: gathering Mortus Horns.

Warframe Mortus Lungfish

What are Mortus Horns

Most of the ingredients in Caliban's blueprints are Anomaly Shards and Narmer Isoplasts, which players will naturally build up as they fight Sentients and complete Warframe's Narmer Bounties. But there are a few ingredients that are rarer, like Breath of the Eidolon or Hespazym Alloy.

Crafting Caliban's chassis requires 10 Mortus Horns, and these are special because they can't be gathered through normal combat drops. The player has to go out of their way to fish for them.

Fishing for Mortus Horns

The only way to get Mortus Horns is to fish for Mortus Lungfish, one of the fish that spawn in the Plains of Eidolon. As per usual with Warframe's fishing, players should stock up on bait, spears, and luminous dye. The most effective spears for this job are the Lanzo and Peram, and players can use either Peppered Bait or Twilight Bait, depending on when they arrive.

Mortus Lungfish spawn both during the night and day, so players shouldn't worry too hard about when they arrive at the Plains. That being said, they spawn slightly more at night, so if the player has other objectives they want to complete that session, they might want to shift their priorities until nightfall.

These are freshwater fish, so players won't find them near the coasts. Instead, players should look at landlocked still ponds, like the Twin Horns near Cetus, or The Ribs near the northwest corner of the map.

Normally, players want to aim for larger fish, since the bigger variants give more resources. If the player is solely hunting for mortus horns for Caliban, then it doesn't matter. Every Mortus Lungfish, both big and small, only gives one Mortus Horn.

After the player has caught any 10 Mortus Lungfish, they can return to Cetus and deliver them to Fisher Hai-Lunk to convert them into their component parts. Any extra can be traded in for standing or excess ingredients.

Warframe is available now for Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
