In Warframe, space combat takes a high-intensity spin courtesy of powerful exosuits called Warframes. With these Frames, players can rely on a multitude of special abilities to complement their choice of firearms and gear. Moreover, a Warframe's access to high-speed skills also allow players to enjoy another aspect of gameplay: melee weapons.

Essentially, Warframes train not just in the ways of firearms but melee weaponry as well. Additionally, Warframes can tap into 24 Melee Weapon Classes, each with their own unique combos and even stances that switch up their available playstyles. However, for newcomers, just which Melee Weapon Classes should they pick for their Warframes?

10 Best: Glaives

Glaive - Warframe Melee Weapons Best Worst

Warframes perform best whenever their arsenals improve their adaptability in battle. Thanks to Glaives, Warframes can use Glaives as a circular melee weapon or throw it to as far as 30-meters, capable of damaging enemies and bouncing off obstacles within range.

However, the Glaive performs excellently due to its usage options. For instance, players can use a Glaive alongside a one-hand secondary weapon. Additionally, hitting a Heavy Attack while the Glaive is in mid-flight causes it to explode. Not only does this force the Glaive to return, it also produces a guaranteed proc for its effects. Moreover, not only does a thrown Glaive serve as a silent weapon, players can also reload weapons while the Glaive is afar. Excellent Glaives include the flexible Xoris, heavy-hitting Pathocyst, and mid-level Falcor.

9 Worst: Sparring

Sparring - Warframe Melee Weapons Best Worst

Warframes with a knack for martial arts will appreciate Sparring Weapons. Unlike other Melee Weapon Classes, Sparring Weapons incorporate both fist and feet elements to enable Warframes to dish out punches and kicks across different Stances. Sparring Weapons boast three stances, high-speed attacks (Grim Fury), leaping attacks (Brutal Tide), or Conclave-exclusive martial arts (Vicious Approach).

Despite the rather heavy-hitting nature of Sparring Weapons, they do have a drawback: their effective range. Essentially, Warframes only benefit from Sparring Weapons when enemies are beside them - which can get tricky, especially for Warframes with low Armor. Additionally, there are only six Sparring Weapons available in-game, drastically lowering the chance of using them.

8 Best: Scythes

Scythe - Warframe Melee Weapons Best Worst

Aside from their edgy appeal, Scythes in Warframe make for extremely efficient melee weapons. Unlike other Melee Weapon Classes, Scythes have decent short-to-mid-range reach, enabling players to chain combos to target even approaching enemies. Aside from that, Stances such as multi-hit combos (Reaping Spiral), lunging spirals (Stalking Fan), and Conclave-exclusive martial arts (Shadow Harvest) further capitalize on Warframe speed to proc Scythe effects.

Despite only having five available weapons, Scythes have some of the most high-speed weapons available. These include the Ether Reaper, Anku, and Reaper Prime - all of which boasting decent critical and status chance and ferocious attack speed. Likewise, the Infest Cautacyst Scythe that creates a staggering sludge whenever it makes Heavy Attacks.

7 Worst: Fists

Fist - Warframe Melee Weapons Best Worst

Players who have a knack for brawling might appreciate Fists more than Sparring Weapons. Unlike the latter, Fists rely heavily on speed and its short-range, often boasting high critical chance on the get-go. Its Stances include slow-but-reaching combos (Seismic Palm), multi-hit strikes (Fracturing Wind), slow strikes (Gaia's Tragedy), and a Conclave-exclusive battle art (Quaking Hand).

Sadly, despite high critical chance, Fists do have a similar setback as Sparring Weapons: its limited range. Despite their potential efficacy, Fists such as the Tekko, Furax, and Ankyros depend heavily on being able to get close to the enemy in the first place - something not all Warframes can afford to do.

6 Best: Polearm

Polearm - Warframe Melee Weapons Best Worst

Warframes who want a melee weapon with decent reach but hard-hitting combos would appreciate the Polearm. Unlike other melee weapons, Polearms boast some of the fastest mid-range attacks out there - perfect for Warframes who want to attack enemies who get close but still maintain distance. Stances include spinning-staggering attacks (Shimmering Blight), leaping strikes (Bleeding Willow), sweeping-precise maneuvers (Twirling Spire), and Conclave-exclusive battle techniques (Argent Scourge).

Interestingly, with 12 Polearms available, this Weapon Class boasts some of the highest numbers of available weapons within its category. It also has some very unique weapon traits. For example, the Orthos trades its critical hit chance with a high status chance. Likewise, the Guandao has slow attack speed that compensates with sheer attack power.

5 Worst: Machete

Machete - Warframe Melee Weapons Best Worst

Unlike the usual fast-paced Sword, Machetes rely on harsh but powerful strikes that often butcher the enemy before they even react. Its Stances include focused-based attacks (Sundering Weaves), quick-but-brutal strikes (Cyclone Kraken), and fierce combos (Rending Wind). In turn, Machetes seem to fit tank builds based on its precision.

However, players might not readily appreciate the Machete for its rather rigid and straightforward nature. While smooth combos remain possible with the Machete, it's not as fluid compared to other available Weapon Classes. Notable Machetes include the Kreska, Prisma Machete, and the Prova Vandal, all of which boast decent critical damage and harsh heavy attacks.

4 Best: Tonfas

Tonfa - Warframe Melee Weapons Best Worst

Warframes who want to use all components of its melee weapon could best rely on the Tonfa for its fast-paced and fluid attacks. With the Tonfa, Stances include sweeping slashes (Gemini Cross), overarching sweeps (Sovereign Outcast), and exaggerated gestures (Star Divide).

Additionally, despite its limited selection of five weapons, Tonfas also boast incredible adaptability and ease of use. In turn, beginners who get the opportunity to use a Tonfa could easily integrate its decent base critical and status chances with fast-paced slides, glides, and jumps. Notable Tonfas include the Boltace, Kronen, and Ohma.

3 Worst: Nunchaku

Nunchaku - Warframe Melee Weapons Best Worst

Fans of martial arts would appreciate the Nunchaku as a Weapon Class for their Warframe. Unlike other melee weapons, the Nunchaku relies on quick strikes around the user, enabling Warframes to fight enemies across multiple fronts without much difficulty. Stances include rapid but deceptive movements (Atlantis Vulcan) and a more fluid Conclave-exclusive art (Mafic Rain).

Unfortunately, despite the appeal of the Nunchaku, there only exists four weapons under this Class - the Ninkondi and its Prime Variant, the Pulmonars, and the Shaku. Additionally, while all these weapons exhibit decent range and decent damage, the lack of versatility in terms of combos make the Nunchaku a very niche weapon.

2 Best: Gunblade

Gunblade - Warframe Melee Weapons Best Worst

Why settle for a sword or a gun when a Warframe can have them both within a Gunblade? With a Gunblade, a Warframe has access to medium-speed slashes alongside shotgun blasts - giving them a unique versatility in terms of their weapon options. Stances include bullet sprays in between slashes (High Noon) and a synchronized gunfire-slash dance (Bullet Dance).

Despite only having four weapons - Redeemer and its Prime Variant, Sarpa, and Stropha - the Gunblade's adaptability easily compensates for this. Its 5-meter range is enough for mid-range blasts that complement its forward and intense slashes. Great Gunblades include the Slash-oriented Redeemer, the burst-fire Sarpa, and the shockwave-reliant Stropha.

1 Worst: Warfans

Warfan - Warframe Melee Weapons Best Worst

While taking a fan to battle has its appeal, the Warfan is easily one of the worst Weapon Classes in terms of melee. Aside from only having three weapons - the Arum Spinosa, the Gunsen, and the Quassus - the Warfan also only has quite a limited range that requires players to stick close to enemies.

Interestingly, Warfans do possess some redeeming factors. For instance, its Slicing Feathers Stance easily appeals to users with its twirl-based slashes. Moreover, its weapon variants do boast unique abilities. For instance, the Arum Spinosa shoots Toxin projectiles when dealing heavy attacks. Meanwhile, the Quassus throws daggers when doing the same kind of attack towards enemies.
