In a surprise announcement, the game Warface has been announced for Nintendo Switch and is available now for free. The free-to-play first-person shooter has been available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, as well as previous generation consoles and, has been played by over 80 million players. Warface is also getting the Titan Update to go along with the Switch port.

The Switch version of Warface comes as a large surprise to the fans, but certainly a welcome one. Fitting the CryEngine game onto the Switch is another example of a powerful game on the little engine that could, similar to The Witcher 3. The game is available immediately to download and the sooner players jump on the better. As long as Switch owners log on between now and March 31, they will obtain a Tactical Axe and a VIP booster for 7 days. The Switch version also includes HD rumble and gyroscope control features.

While Warface was first released in 2014 to fair reviews, the game has come a long way with constant updates and is a true live-service style game. The most recent update is called the Titan Update and it adds new skins, a weapon rarity system, a new class (SED), and much more. Fans online are mostly excited with the changes and Switch players will be able to have fun by creating a soldier, editing 200+ weapons, and playing in PVP battles and PVE raid experiences.

The Nintendo Switch has had a very successful first three years and has sold over 30 million units thus far. A lot of that success has come thanks to excellent first-party support and great indie games. Third-party games are few and far between, so a game like Warface is a nice surprise.

With Warface hitting the Switch, fans may wonder if other CryEngine titles could be on the way in the future. Crytek doesn't have a huge history with Nintendo, in many ways it doesn't have a large foothold on consoles at all, but this is a start. Hunt: Showdown is a CryEngine game that is on the PC, Xbox One, and is headed to the PS4, so it could be a contender. For now, however, Warface is an excellent surprise and Switch fans can enjoy the game right now.
