The last couple of months have been exciting for fans of the Warcraft franchise with the announcement of the Dragonflight expansion and Wrath of the Lich King Classic. Blizzard just announced a new mobile game set in the Warcraft universe called Warcraft Arclight Rumble.

Warcraft Arclight Rumble is a tower defense-like action strategy game with strong ties to the Warcraft's RTS roots. Blizzard is promising fast-paced real-time strategy battles and an “easy to learn, hard to master” Warcraft gaming experience with Arclight Rumble.

According to Blizzard, Warcraft Arclight Rumble will host a verbose single player campaign with over 70 maps set across Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms full of recognizable villains and monsters from World of Warcraft Classic. Players can collect over 60 different miniaturized versions of iconic Warcraft heroes, villains, units, and monsters to build their armies, and can field classic spells to turn the tide of battle. Though players will not build bases like in previous Warcraft strategy games, they can capture towers, meeting stones, and gold mines on the map to bolster their forces and protect their base from the enemy’s attacks.

Warcraft Arclight Rumble will also have competitive and cooperative content. It boasts a head-to-head dueling mode where players can pit their armies against each other, as well as guild and Raid systems which will allow players to battle alongside one another.

Many Warcraft fans are cautiously optimistic about Warcraft Arclight Rumble. Despite the lucrative market, mobile games carry a stigma among many gamers. However, the development team behind Warcraft Arclight Rumble consists of many Warcraft and Blizzard veterans. Many fans hope these developers will ensure Warcraft Arclight Rumble will deliver the “authentic Warcraft experience” it is promising.

However, plenty of fans are not satisfied with what they’ve seen from Warcraft Arclight Rumble so far. Though Warcraft Arclight Rumble’s art style and gameplay are charming and reminiscent of Warcraft, many fans have noticed the game shares similarities to other prolific mobile titles like Crash Royale. Many of these fans were hoping for a narrative-focused Warcraft game they could play on PC, or a companion to World of Warcraft, and were disappointed to see Warcraft Arclight Rumble is gearing up to be a chaotic, narrative-lite mobile battle game.

Warcraft Arclight Rumble does not have an official release schedule at the moment, but Blizzard is already offering pre-registration for early access on the official site. The game seems to be far along in development, and is already in closed alpha, so a beta for Warcraft Arclight Rumble is likely not far off.

Warcraft Arclight Rumble is currently in development.
