Both Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and the Warcraft 2: Battle.net Edition battle chest featuring Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness and its expansion Beyond the Dark Portal are available to buy and download now on GOG. Starting today, Warcraft fans can visit the GOG storefront and purchase each game for $5.99 or $9.99 respectively, or a bundle of both of games together for $14.99. It's the first time either game has been made available digitally.

This launch marks the second effort of GOG and Blizzard's partnership to release otherwise unavailable classic games digitally. The first came in the form of the original Diablo on GOG, which launched just three weeks ago. GOG confirmed at the time that both Warcraft titles were also planned for release, but few could have predicted they would become available so quickly. Fittingly, they come just ahead of this November's 25th anniversary since Warcraft: Orcs and Humans originally launched.

Much like with the release of Diablo, GOG's developers worked to retain the authenticity of the original versions of each Warcraft game. Warcraft: Orcs and Humans is, for better or worse, confirmed to run just as it did in 1994. That means that while it will run on modern PC systems, it won't provide anything like improved optimization or resolution scaling.

Warcraft 2: Battle.net Edition got the Diablo-esque update from GOG's developers, however. There remains a classic version of the game which includes Battle.net multiplayer for Warcraft 2 and social features. But for those who are focused purely on the classic single-player story campaign, there's also an updated version which includes high-resolution support and upscaling.

With the release of Warcraft 2: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft 2: Battle.net Edition on GOG, the two companies' partnership appears to be concluded. No further classic game releases have been confirmed to be in development.

That hasn't stopped Blizzard fans from speculating about the future, however. Fans of the original Diablo are demanding the game's "bootleg" expansion Hellfire get released. What's more is that many veteran Blizzard fans would likely love to see Blackthorne, Rock n' Roll Racing, and The Lost Vikings get re-releases as well. Blizzard, however, may have its eyes set on something more adapted to the modern audience, whether that be a Diablo 2 remaster or new games entirely.
