Gaijin Entertainment's 2012 title War Thunder prides itself on being a realistic combat simulator, featuring dozens of land, air, and sea-based vehicles for the player to choose from. Each playable vehicle is accurately modeled after real-world tanks and planes, with everything down to the painted camouflage being faithfully recreated.

However, in addition to the game's default offerings, War Thunder also allows players to forego these historically accurate paint-jobs in favor of more extravagant, detailed, and oftentimes flamboyant options. With the game's modding community still running strong after almost nine years, there are more than enough skins to choose from.

10 The Spitfire Skin Pack

9 Stug III Ausf A Dot Camo Pack

Author: Jake Ultor

Release Date: July 22, 2015

This skin pack is more of a return to form when it comes to "classic camouflage." The Stug III Ausf A Dot Camo Pack features four unique camouflage patterns: a snow pattern, a modified dot pattern, a nighttime optimized camouflage, and a woodland camouflage.

This pack offers players numerous options for any map or any situation while allowing them to look stylish as they dominate the land battle

8 A6M2 Model 11 Cloud Dragon Skin

Author: NO_DRAGON

Release Date: October 20, 2018

Released as a skin for the Mitsubishi Zero, the Cloud Dragon Skin adds an extremely detailed black and red dragon detail to the fuselage of the plane, just below the cockpit. A secondary dragon decal also appears on the wings themselves, this time in the form of three smaller, porcelain white dragons.

The decals serve as a welcome addition to the otherwise plain, white exterior of the Zero and definitely enhance the intimidation factor of the plane.

7 Wu-Tang Camo Pack

Author: Cursed Kennedy

Release Date: June 14, 2020

While this pack is certainly geared more towards a specific audience, the Wu-Tang Camo Pack offers something for fans and non-fans alike.

Fans of the classic rap group will appreciate the opportunity to sport the Wu-Tang logo when charging into battle, and non-fans will enjoy the varied and truly unique camo patterns, such as one seemingly inspired by a fractal design. With the pack containing roughly eight different skins in total, there's plenty of customization options to go around.

6 Measure 22 USS Trenton Skin

Author: Xana

Release Date: February 15, 2019

One of the more common complaints voiced by War Thunder players concerns the lack of color found in ships. Most tend to be somewhat bland (and historically accurate) grey or off grey.

For this reason, the Measure 22 USS Trenton Skin adds a welcome splash of color to the hull of the ship. The blue paint, coupled with the dashes of rust speckled around the hull, give the skin a battle-hardened look sorely needed for high octane battles on the high seas.

5 SU2-MV5-Red Star Skin

Author: Darchon_X

Release Date: March 5, 2018

Simply put: this skin is absolutely beautiful. The Red Star Skin coats the SU2-MV5 in a resplendent blue, and features modern Russian tricolor on the wings, as well as maintaining the Soviet-era red star on the tail and wings of the plane itself.

All-in-all, the SU2-MV5 Red Star Skin seamlessly blends over 70 years of Russian history into one immaculate design, and it does it with flying colors

4 Soviet T-10M Camo Skin

Author: KlekoTyH

Release Date: January 25, 2021

While some players may find the Soviet T-10M Camo Skin to be somewhat on the simplistic side, the simple elegance of the black and red color palette makes the skin unusually well equipped for nighttime combat operations.

Additionally, the skin offers players a certain "black-widow" inspired look, which is wonderfully rendered with red accents above the tank treads, on the barrel of the tank, and the canvas on the back of the turret.

3 Moonbeam McSwine P-51 Mustang Skin

Author: Crave800

Release Date: August 1, 2015

Sporting this skin will channel the inner flying ace of any player. This skin mod has an exceptional level of detail and care put into it, featuring an accurate recreation of flying ace Captain William Whisner's plane from the Second World War.

Absolutely no detail is left out, everything from the swirling letters on the nose spelling out "Moonbeam McSwine" to numerous Iron Crosses pained just below the cockpit are included in crisp detail.

2 DSHK GAZ AAA Woods Skin

Author: Arkangel7x3

Release Date: November 11, 2017

In a similar vein to the Stug III Ausf A Dot Camo Pack, the DSHK GAZ AAA Woods Skin offers the players beautifully rendered forest camouflage, perfect for hiding from enemy aircraft.

The pattern itself has a distinctly "mud-splattered" esthetic, which gives the skin a battle-worn feel that feels right at home in War Thunder

1 USS Prinz Eugen Skin

Author: Xana

Release Date: December 21, 2020

The USS Prinz Eugen Skin is a welcome addition to the sparsely populated field of warship skins. Modeled after the massive ship of the same name, the Prinz Eugen skin faithfully recreates the former German-turned-American warship mere months before its sinking in 1946 and does so in fine detail. The attention to detail is highly commendable.
