At E3 this year we had our first chance to get up close and personal with the upcoming downloadable video game adaptation of H. G. Wells’ 1898 tale, The War of the Worlds. Developed by Other Ocean Interactive and published by Paramount Digital Entertainment, The War of the Worlds is a 2D side-scroller which features the lovely voice talent of Patrick Stewart.

The game is inspired both by the original work of Wells and the classic 1958 sci-fi film (check out the screenshots). With The War of the Worlds nearing release, we’re hosting a giveaway for the game and some sweet swag. Read on for the details and contest rules.

In anticipation of the War of the Worlds game release on Xbox Live Arcade, we’re giving away a giftpack including the Xbox Live Arcade game code, official game poster, and DVD of the 1953 film!

To enter the contest, follow Game Rant on Twitter @gamerant and simply send us a tweet to tell us your favorite classic sci-fi film. Giveaway is open to U.S. and Canadian residents only and selected winner will be asked to send us their full name, mailing address and phone number.

The War of the Worlds is a brand new action adventure game offering players a dark and breathtaking new vision of the classic H.G. Wells novel. The game pits players in a challenging story of survival as a lone person trying to escape chaos and destruction amidst an alien invasion in 1950s London. The gameplay parallels the timeline and events from the 1953 movie adaptation, while introducing a new story arc, characters, locations, and sub-plots where players must outsmart an army of alien tripods and other menacing war machines as they make their way through a landscape of total devastation. Featuring the voice of acclaimed TV and film star Patrick Stewart as the narrator, The War of the Worlds is an exciting and atmospheric survival-adventure game, not to be missed!
