This article contains spoilers for WandaVision.

There has been a lot of speculation regarding Pietro Maximoff’s true identity on Disney Plus’ WandaVision ever since he first arrived outside Wanda and Vision’s home. With each passing episode, fans are becoming more suspicious of Evan Peters’ character and are convinced that it is in fact Mephisto, the devil of the Marvel Comics world. To add to the conversation, artist Raf Grassetti shared his take on what the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of Mephisto could look like in an image shared on his social media channels.

The art, designed by Grassetti shows Peters’ Pietro as the devil incarnate. It seems like the God of War art director is also a fan of WandaVision, with him expressing his love for the show in the Instagram post's caption, referring to it as "the best surprise this year so far." As he looks forward to what the show has to offer, Grassetti does however seem to be in on the Mephisto theory and hopes to "see more of him soon".

While Peters' character’s signature hairstyle remains intact in Grassetti's portrait of Mephisto, with his features also similar to those of Peters', the red skin and armor are what stand out in the portrait. Lounging on his throne, the demonic overlord has a smirk on his face, as if confirming that he has something up his sleeve.

Peters first made an appearance on WandaVision in Episode 5, "On A Very Special Episode...". Reprising his role as Quicksilver from the 20th Century Fox’s X-Men film franchise, Peters immediately became a topic of conversation amongst MCU fans. Several theories erupted online of how Pietro was alive, as fans saw him die in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and why he suddenly looked like the X-Men version of Wanda’s brother. Fans wondered if he was finally initiating a connection between the X-Men and the MCU following Disney’s acquisition of Fox or is he just the devil playing with Wanda’s mind.

While the conversation was ongoing, WandaVision dropped another twister on Episode 7, “Breaking the Fourth Wall”. Another popular fan theory was put to rest when it was confirmed that Agnes was in fact “Agatha all along”. She admits to being Agatha Harkness, an extremely powerful witch that appears in the comics. Her truth also brings back the original fan theory of WandaVision following the House of M storyline, in which Agatha reveals to Wanda that her twins were created from a piece of Mephisto's soul.

So, it all comes back to the demon Mephisto and the question remains whether he will be making the much-awaited appearance on the series. But, how does that connect to Pietro? After Wanda comes face-to-face with Agatha at the end of the seventh episode, things don’t end there. The first post-credit scene in the season is revealed, with Monica Rambeau, who is back in Westview, snooping outside Agatha's home and having a surprise encounter with Pietro.

The MCU tradition of a post-credit scene works as the perfect cliffhanger after the shocking episode. A few simple words uttered by Pietro, “snoopers gonna snoop,” have once again left fans labeling him as the big bad villain, albeit in disguise. While fans are now even more convinced that Pietro is a fake, it remains to be seen if the most popular fan theory will end up being true. With only two episodes remaining on the first season of WandaVision, fans won’t have to wait too long to find out.

Episode 8 of WandaVision airs on Disney Plus on February 26, 2021.
