For weeks now this hit Disney Plus Marvel series WandaVision has been the subject of endless fan theories and rumors. With only one episode left, many of those fan theories have already come to fruition, such as the reveal that it was Agatha Harkness all along. However, it appears that series director Matt Shakman may have just crushed some fans' hopes for a certain theorized cameo.

In an earlier episode of WandaVision, Marvel newcomer Monica Rambeau teased that she knew an 'aerospace engineer' who could help them get back into 'the hex'. Fans were quick to speculate, who could this mystery scientist be? Many believed the obvious choice was the leader of the Fantastic Four, Reed Richards AKA Mister Fantastic, perhaps portrayed by Office favorite John Krasinski. Richards seemed like an obvious choice, now that Disney has acquired 20th Century Fox and all their previously owned superhero IP. The Fantastic Four also famously have their roots in aerospace science, since in the comics the team developed superpowers after being exposed to cosmic rays during an experimental space flight.

So far Reed Richards has not appeared on WandaVision, and it's extremely unlikely we'll see the elastic genius on the upcoming finale. Speaking to ComicBook.com, series director Matt Shakman said "I have been so taken by the passionate interest in the show. And I love the memes they have created, the Tik Tok videos, the theories. I mean, my gosh, the people making these theories are more creative than I am, so thank you!" In regards to Reed Richards, Shakman stated "I mean, certainly the amount of passion around the aerospace engineer certainly was one that was pretty great, I mean, sure, it would've been great if Reed Richards had showed up in that room, that would have been pretty great."

So it seems unlikely that the mysterious aerospace engineer will indeed be Reed Richards. However, there is also the matter that Vision actor Paul Bettany has gone on the record to say that there is an actor who will appear in WandaVision that he has always wanted to work with. Fans once again fell for the bait, and all season long have been theorizing the identity of this mystery actor, combing through Bettany's filmography to figure out who he could be referring to. Some theorized another X-Men actor such as Ian McKellen or Patrick Stewart, especially since another X-men actor from that movie universe has already appeared. Others were quick to suggest that it might be Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange since it's already confirmed that Wanda will be appearing in the upcoming Marvel film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

With one episode left it's starting to seem like Bettany may have been trolling audiences. Some have suggested that this whole time he was actually referring to working alongside himself. It was Bettany all along! In the last episode of WandaVision audiences were introduced to a potentially evil Vision doppelgänger, currently referred to as 'white vision', who was created out of the deceased body of the character by the very unlikeable S.W.O.R.D operative, Tyler Hayward. It sure seems like these two visions will go head to head, meaning that Bettany will indeed be acting with someone he's never been able to work with.

Audiences will have to wait and see when the season one finale of WandaVision premieres this Friday on Disney Plus.
