The release date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on the Switch is fast approaching, but some lucky gamers may be able to play this title sooner than most. Walmart has apparently broken the street date for the RPG, and those that chance upon it at their local Walmart can buy it right now.
Of all games to break the street date, The Witcher 3 is probably the most acceptable one. CD Projekt Red's massive RPG has been out for over four years on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with the Switch version of The Witcher 3 releasing October 15. However, it can be upsetting for those that still need to wait until next Tuesday to play The Witcher 3 on the go.
Regardless of The Witcher 3 on Switch's actual release date, some people are reporting that the Complete Edition is already on some Walmart store shelves. While it may not be possible for the cashiers to actually ring up the game now, it's worth the try to get this title over a week early. There is no knowing which Walmarts may have broken the street date and which haven't, so the only way to know is to head over and check.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition features not only the base game but also two substantial DLC packages: Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone. Switch players may wonder if they need to play previous Witcher titles before The Witcher 3, but this title can be played without knowledge of the previous games. Players that jump right into The Witcher 3 may miss some references, but since the previous two Witcher games are not on the Switch, the general plot still holds up without any context.
While it can be frustrating to hear about broken street dates and not being able to get an early copy of a game, with all the titles releasing this month, it shouldn't be difficult to wait until the 15th for The Witcher 3. Granted, this is a title that's often considered one of the best games of the generation. From The Witcher 3's approach to side quests to a well-loved story, there's plenty to look forward to here, and it's understandable that those who missed the game on the other consoles would want to play it on the Switch as soon as they're able.
The series is so successful that there's even going to be a Netflix series on The Witcher. Needless to say, though, Switch owners will be able to enjoy this well-loved RPG very soon.
